My favorite part was when he looked at the camera and said in so many words, don't use bondo to repair structural parts chassis guys, I think his eyes rolled like 5 times in 10 seconds. Great video. My first car was a "67" Mustang that I later figured out was pieced together poorly from many different cars some of them were 68's . Easy to work on 289 2bbl.

That reminds me of the time I was rear-ended in a 10 year old 1965 Mustang coupe while waiting to make a left turn into a convenience store near Camp Dearborn in Michigan. I was 18 and enjoying the perks of being the focus of attention by the older (30-ish) female passenger, which I never had any interest in and never touched. Her 2 children were in the backseat and amazingly emerged uninjured by the severe crash. The trunk lid folded like an accordian and somehow the top of the gas tank was pushed forward to reveal a great view of fuel filled to the top. I’ve always described it as the top of the tank being sheared off but that doesn’t seem quite right when considering it contains the fuel pump and yet we drove it home like that. Anyway, just before impact I glanced into the rear view mirror and saw the car (I believe a T-bird) slam into us, which pushed our car quite some distance, even though my foot never left the brake pedal. Well considering both seatbacks of the buckets broke backwards, I suppose I had to reapply the brakes while directing it to the side of the road. The radio knobs and cigarette lighter flew into the backseat, and the visors were suddenly facing rearward as well. Now I was home on leave after finishing boot camp and unfortunately stayed a few days longer than I was supposed to so fearing trouble at being AWOL, I quickly switched positions with the gal so I could blend into the crowd that gathered. We sure were lucky to have escaped with nothing more than a lifelong aching back. A few years later I found an orange '67 fastback Mustang on a dealers backlot, presumably a trade-in. Someone removed the entire trunk floor pan and all that remained was the rear-mounted starting battery. Presumably because the engine bay was stuffed with a 390 and didn’t leave room for a battery. It had tube headers, an aluminum high rise intake, a Holley double-pumper carb, a Mallory dual-point distributor, A Hurst competition plus shifter, traction bars, and someone said the engine lobe indicated a race cam but I can’t say for sure. It didn’t matter if I followed the rules of the road or not, that orange ‘Stang was a cop magnet. But I couldn’t help but oblige whenever challenged. I won every race except one and that was against another ‘67 Mustang, but it was the smaller coupe. We were neck to neck until he started pulling away. I didn’t know the guy but we were both pulled over to receive our tickets and I was shocked to discover he had a smaller 289 hi-po with about the same mods my car had. Anyway, I nearly lost my license from so many tickets so I sold it. Anyway, today I’m cutting the rot out of a 2000 Toyota Echo and found the structural bends and thickness of an old gas tank works perfectly as a floor pan but generally I harvest steel from other vehicles before scrapping ‘em.

I know a lot of You Tube viewers find fault with early Mustangs as not being a muscle car (which it wasn't it's original purpose) or that it was poorly made. However it was pivotal to the next step in the progression of the muscle car. Without the Mustang (or pony car), probably no Camaro, Challenger or even AMX. Plus you got love what Shelby did with the Mustang and what Kiwi will do next with it!😎

It has to scare the sh*t out of people to know the condition of some of these cars running down the road. It really has to makes the average person think twice before just jumping in and purchasing a nostalgic old car. Why does it matter if anything was done at the factory points? I watched Scott Newstead on Cold War Motors (youtube channel) do this on every single panel on his 1960 Fury splice-a-thon (built 1 car out of 3, the main one of which the whole car is built around wasn't even a fury). The bottom 6-12 inches of the body shell (excluding the bottom frame of the car) was rotted to all hell. He made patch panels with a hammer and stump and an English wheel. He literally went back in time so to speak before all the fury parts were added and the car it's made from would be all the same (shares all the bottom parts). The car that acts as the bottom half that isn't a fury was actually a 4 door and the final Fury he created is a 2 door. But the top part, the part that was originally a Fury had the bottom 6-12" rotted. So he cut the rotted part out, banged out patch panels and welded them onto the top part of the panels. The end result is a beautiful car that he made for himself and is not selling to someone else (so it's not like he's taking shortcuts to save money to earn a bigger profit) . It took him over 3 years to do it. Literally 1/2 the quarter panels were done in this way. Same with the fenders and the floors.

Kiwi, you seem to know where to find anything needed for projects so, I have a serious question for you about my 1994 V-8 Ranger. I REALLY want it to have dual rear wheels just because I think it would look cool. Do you know of any company that will build a set of steel dually rims with a 5x4 1/2" lug pattern? I've exchanged emails with Compton and several others but, none of them seem to want any part of it. My project won't be making stupid power and won't be raced, just a fun, nice weather cruiser. Any information you can give me will be sincerely appreciated.

@@user-t2l6h Yeah, sure. That's why they were offered for a time as "incomplete" vehicles with duals from the factory. Obviously, the 7.5" rear under my truck now couldn't handle it and, in my opinion, an 8" would be questionable. However, an 8.8", which will be going under my truck shouldn't have any issues since I'll also be upgrading the rear suspension and the truck will never be used for actually hauling anything other than a cooler, canopy and a couple of folding chairs to local shows. I have plenty of other trucks for actual work. The Ranger will just be a fair weather, weekend toy.
