The enemy Dan was having trouble with (aside form the laser crabs) is the cuttlefish! Quite possible the most intelligent of the octopus/squid family, they are well known for using the family's ability to change color to flash a hypnotic pattern that affect their prey to be more easily caught.

I hadn't even considered how the "Silence, Brand!" meme would fit into this game's overall messaging and thematics! Very good eye for literacy, Mister Dan Floyd. Hats off to you :D

Fun(?) fact: The "Silence, brand!" meme is an edited "Silence, liberal!" meme. Same crab, same lasers, different target. The Internet lets memes mutate rapidly and wildly will still leaving a paper trail. As long as people archive the pngs fast enough.

Hi there, Dan! I've read in previous videos' comments you've already finished this playthrough, but I'd like to share a couple of things: 1) Since you asked some videos ago, I reached the end of Another's Crab Treasure with 7 VIT, 30 RES, 20 ATK, 0 MSG. A tiny smooshy thing inside an indestructible [spoiler shell], à la Yoccult+. 2) There's an adaptation you probably missed entirely; if you haven't looked it up, a double hint: you have to be incredibly obnoxious, and it'll hurt. Thanks both Carrie and you for all these years of fun and discovery! (Same as with Psychonauts 2 and Control, I watched the first 10 minutes of your first video, put it down and went buy and play the game myself, then came back).

Yoccult is also my favourite shell, the regen is so useful for long sorties without resting. And you seem to be saying there's an improved version somehow (or is it the pills?). I also went for full physical attack, but less resistance since I don't block that much. Dan has that effect, there have been many games I felt like I had to play along, even if I never would have otherwise.
@sdgesedege20 күн бұрын
@@bentfishbowl3945 yep, I meant that shell, as (if I recall correctly) it's simply better all across the board than Yoccult. I can't get used to play along, but once I'm finished I can't wait to catch up and see where I fared better and where he beat me fair and square. (Same way he embarrassed me against The Consortium, I beat Malenia in two tries and he needed a determination montage.)
@nelsonwarner103220 күн бұрын
If you wanted a shell you missed picking up, you can go to the place where you fought Roland and before you fell down to the abyss and there was a unique shell that you can find there.

The Cuttlefish rarely do it in the initial chunk of the Unfathom, but they LOVE doing it immediately in the Abyssal Plains... which is both terrifying and hilariously cruel

The Brand Silencers (which is a name I just made up) seem like the type of enemy you're meant to avoid and hide from. Unfortunately for them, they have a health bar. And as the saying goes, "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
@Woodledude17 күн бұрын
To be fair. It's REALLY hard to hide from them. They don't really let up on chasing you unless you go WELL out of your way, the blasts are tricky and inconsistent to dodge without good cover to hide behind, they have a tendency to walk straight over cover anyway, and they can detect you quite quickly. Then add to that the fact that it's basically impossible to hide from/dodge two at once, and HELL to fight two at once. They're a very intimidating enemy, but the best tactic against them is to take them on one by one and clear them out so that you don't trip over their massive aggro ranges while they wander around at speed over vast distances that are full of things you probably want. It might be possible to avoid them, but I don't think it's very easy to avoid them AND clean out the area of goodies.

I'm sure Dan has beaten this game already, but here are a couple tips for anyone that needs them: Eelectrocute may not do a ton of damage, but it can stun enemies, making it good for slowing down those giant crabs enough to close the gap and attack. Also, it's great agains those annoying crab/mite things. Snail Sanctum makes a great hammer, especially when leveled up. Its high defense gives it high damage, and you don't have to worry about finding a good replacement mid level.
@ShinxBOOM24720 күн бұрын
0:22 h...how??? How did he somehow guess the exact number of the funny giant laser crabs in the Abyssal Plains. There are 2 in the first section and 4 in the second, so yeah... there are, in fact, 6 of them 4:12 no, the tactical tentacle always attacks at the same speed regardless of the weapon or even attack you're using
@Woodledude17 күн бұрын
The fact that they're so big and the fact that they respawn makes it feel like there are way more than six of them, but also I think you're completely right and that shocks me. Amazing.
