Yeah totally, that is why Tzekos' athletes were the only ones who would not attend meetings where almost all other regular medal winners would compeye for the prize money. Have you seen this many athletes raising such huge red flags by suddenly transforming from utterly unexceptional to invincible like Kenteris did? We can speculate all we want about anyone and everyone doping, but it does seem like only Greeks were so much into it that they couldn't even afford to be seen anywhere between tournaments because they were sure to be found positive. Likewise, many were doping, but name another country that is so corrupt as to experience such a huge scandal like these two caused, yet the courts ultimately had the audacity to pretend to believe their hilarious traffic accident plot.

@@Panagiotis-Skordilis The US certainly had many doping cases, but Thanou's opponent Jones actually was vilified and went to jail. In Greece we had these two acquitted and Thanou was even making demands, claiming to be wronged by the Greek state. Is a murder attempt against a journalist who testified against them usual too? Greek doping checks being done by appointment? Kenteris, Thanou and sports administrators being shareholders in Tzekos' drug business? Tzekos would take any athlete whose performance was absolutely unremarkable for years and instantly turn them to winners, as if nobody would ever realize how this was done. Not to mention the hilarious Greek weightlifting team that was winning in every single category for years until an unexpected WADA test found 11 out of 14 of them positive, their poor coach a victim of another international conspiracy against Hellenism for sure. So either other countries' teams weren't doping in such a collective and extreme scale, or they had the common sense to make is seem more believable. I believe it's a bit of both. The sad truth is that while doping is an endemic problem in sports competition, some countries have the additional problem of running state sponsored doping programs where indeed, almost everybody's involved, all because of some silly notion of doping the public with "national pride". These are not that many, but Greece was certainly one of them. So "they're all dopers so what's the big deal?" just doesn't cut it for me.

This is true. Iera, and someone else in the vehicle, are being charged by police after trying to flee.....'An extraordinary story has emerged from the long-running French amateur stage race Routes de l’Oise, where the rider placed third overall heading into the final stage was reportedly suspected of motor doping and subsequently ran down the race director in his car in an attempt to escape detection. Giovambattista Iera, a 53-year-old Italian cyclist and former actor, had been suspected of cheating by both the race organisers and his fellow competitors after an attack on Saturday’s second stage saw him close a big gap to the breakaway. With strange noises allegedly heard from his bike, the Italian was reportedly asked to present his bike by race director Frédéric Lenormand on the morning of Monday’s fourth and final stage, but he reportedly fled to a nearby vehicle and looked to make his exit. ...... After Iera had been approached by race officials on Monday morning and subsequently fled the scene, his AC Bellaingeoise team was excluded from the final stage, with the team’s manager ensuring that they did not know of Iera’s alleged deception. The team have subsequently suspended Iera and his personal coach, a fellow rider and former professional named Miguel Ubeto, from the outfit. “We had suspicions about potential cheating,” explained Lenormand himself, the president of the race and current race director. “I wanted to hold him back but he fled. He hit me with his car and I did a hundred metres on his hood. It could have been much worse” ' Look it up. Plenty of articles on-line reporting it.
