It's always cool when the engineer gives a couple friendly horn blasts to the waving kids. A little humanity that goes well with a cool hobby. Good catches sir.

Love that look at the long approach from Woodford - the whole train snakes around and crosses over itself - very nice! With 4 leading engines and 3 helpers, this train should be able to go about anywhere :) Placards are require by law for certain commodities. These are dangerous if spilled into the open so, we would see 1987 for liquid ethanol and 1267 for crude oil, etc. Easy to find online :) Great train views as always! Thank you :)

I love the wide swooping curvature of the loop. These long trains now really show off the enormity of it plus that overlook is a great viewing spot.

Hey Mark, was wondering if you could do the railcam viewers a favor and reset the timer on the light outside at the Depot Museum so it turns off at 12:00 midnight just as it did before? For whatever reason the light is causing a halo around the image of the Depot Cam. Anything you can do to help alleviate this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The depot was recently vandalized on the track side and the light is being left on for video surveillance purposes. Sorry.

Mark, I am just guessing but when the box with the flashing lite clears the control point dose it tell whom ever I'm clear? Thanks & keepum coming
@MarkClayMcGowan3 жыл бұрын
No, that is the End Of Train device and is what replaced the caboose. It monitors air pressure for the braking system and relays it to the head end. The flashing light is just a marker for a train or hirail vehicle approaching from the rear. The signal system is how a train's location is determined. Here's a link to some videos I did about how the signal system works. Thanks for checking it out! kzbin.info/aero/PL6ge3RoxmyvqBUZL-pzdFNCD9ZwWeAxwA

Any Tank car not placarded is empty, or food grade. If you want to know what is in those cars, just search UN plus the number on the placard. This is the one occasion in 1000 that the United Nations does actually play a role. For example, UN 1997 is liquid nitrogen. That way, first responders anywhere in the world can know instantly what is in that tank car on its side. Not a bad thing is it?

Usually empty or carrying non hazardous goods. 1987 is alcohol n.o.s (non otherwise specified) by US DOT & Surface Transportation rules/regulations anything carrying 1001+ pounds of a hazardous material MUST BE placqurered. Some cars ARE labeled what it contains a dedicated car. 1202 could be a NUMBER of things from diesel fuel, fuel oil, gas oil. Heating oil, light. I was on my county's haz-mat team for a short time we were lucky to have 2 rail car speediest on the team.

Wonder what it's like living in the loop, looks like a ranch there.

They say you get used to it but I lived about 100 yards from the tracks in Tehachapi for a couple years back in the day and I never got used to it.

From where the video starts until the train passes, what is the gradient? Just wondering if it is constant or varying. Will send you an email concerning helpers.

there are 9 different placards types, based upon what they are carrying they will have the higest hazard shown, in some cases chemicals can have multiple hazards. red is for flammable white and black with a hand and bar is for corrosive. the numbers on the placard relate to the chemical. they only use them with a materials that have a hazard according to the DOT. on site we have acrylic monomer delivered via rail. they have a red background and white letters along with the numbers "1247" that is the 4 digit assigned to that material by the united nations for the world identification of that chemical. no matter where you are located the chemical has the same I.D. No. you can use the ERG manual to tell you what the numbers are relating to the content in the cars. theERG manual shows all of the placards in color so you can see the way each one looks. drop me a line if u have any other questions,
