As an old retired farmer, I like watching you because I can see how far farming technology is moving today. Sometimes I'm screaming at the screen saying things like "That'll Never Work" or "What are they thinking"? but in the end it's very relaxing to just sit back sip my coffee pet my dog and enjoy seeing you figure things out on your own. Keep it up!

Any movements from the heifer's back legs or is she only getting up on the front? We had to put down a near term cow today that fell on ice and couldn't get up. No movement in either back leg, two different experienced large animal vets agreed she likely damaged the femoral nerves from going "splay legged" and recovery was unlikely. Younger animals are more likely to recover but probably unlikely if she did go full on frog and did the splits.

How many hours a day does it take to mix food and take it to all the different groups of cattle....
@TwinElmFarms23 күн бұрын
Right now, just to feed the cows for 1 day takes 2 hours start to finish and add another 45 minutes when we have to feed replacement heifers in the other yard.

Why do you not keep it in the heated shop ??
@TwinElmFarms16 күн бұрын
The temperature change was a lot, she was prepared for cold weather with lots of hair and thick hid. We warmed her up and our vet figured it would be too warm for her over an extended period.

There is no right way to deal with that heifer. Ive had a few like that feeding calves through the years, if they are down longer than a day, it just generally doesn’t work out unfortunately. I’ve tried anti inflammatories and such, or suspending them to stand. Generally doesn’t make a difference in my cases.
@TwinElmFarms23 күн бұрын
It's hard cause we don't know the outcome and we don't want to give up on any animal.
@chadtosh683123 күн бұрын
@ I understand. No criticism at all. Had to put down a bred cow the other day. Pinched a nerve or something. Tried for a week, but there was no winning.

No way your block heater is working. And if it is those masseys are a pile of shit
