Make no mistake about it, Constitution Hill is a truly exceptional hurdler. I've been following racing since Another Flash won the Champion Hurdle in 1961, and I have to say that CH has the potential to be one of the best, and possibly the very best of them.

This horse hasn't done enough for me to claim him one of the best hurdlers. I am not saying he won't canter home in the Champion Hurdle, but to rate this horse the equal of Golden Cygnet is laughable. Golden Cygnet - as a novice - gave Night Nurse 5lb in the Scottish Champion Hurdle, and received only 1lb from Sea Pigeon and - according to connections of those two horses - was going to win that race - until tragedy struck. Another concern I have with Constitution Hill, is that in his three biggest tests, he's been chased home by his stable companion. This suggests quality is thin on the ground. It also suggests that the horses finishing second - especially Epatante - were not given a hard race, because they knew it would have been pointless. This may flatter Constitution Hill. Don't get me wrong - This is a seriously good horse, but - in my opinion - he's not really been tested yet. Unfortunately, Henderson will probably keep it that way.

@@tremont8674 I agree with you on a number of points regarding Constitution Hill. True, he hasn't been really tested yet in a truly competitive race, and I also agree that Golden Cygnet had the potential to be anything until he came to grief in the Scottish Champion Hurdle. He might have gone on to be a superstar, we'll never know. Unfortunately, Henderson can only select suitable races for CH on the run up to the Champion Hurdle in March, and it's out of his hands regarding the standard of opposition his star faces in those races. It is likely that CH will have one more race before the Champion Hurdle, but he must now be race fit with 2 races under his belt. However where you are totally wrong is in your final point. Nicky Henderson will not be able to keep him away from his toughest task to date in the Champion Hurdle in 9 weeks time. The only danger I can see is an error or a fall. With a clear round of jumping, I don't see any of the opposition he will face being good enough to lower his colours.

Seems like one of those few horses that can keep the same pace up for 2 miles and actually ends up getting stronger the nearer to the finishing line he gets. Horse is a freak - you wouldn't know what is under the bonnet.

Ala Faugheen but this guy jumps straight as a dye where as Faugheen never jumped like a ch winner but his engine was incredible, his neptune win a prime example. CH seems a perfect hurdler, straight and true and engine to match.

You can only beat what's in front of you. But you will only find out good CH is when something is able to have a real go at him. I'm going to really nit pick here. I have watched the race several times now. And you cannot deny he is super impressive. But watching the jockeys body language closely, had left me with the impression that there won't be a great left if by some chance something gets to his withers in the finish. He looks like a superstar. Hopefully State Man puts in a good performance on Thursday and then we can at least pretend we have a race at Cheltenham. In fairness to State Man, he could be very good, and he's no doubt still improving, but I can't see him getting too close to this guy. They both have to get there of course.

@Fenian Killer I've been wrong many times,watching stateman at the weekend he was better than a bad bunch but looked close to flat out and in my unprofessional opinion not super fluid. I can't say I've seen constitution hill anywhere near top gear,just steady pace,is that enough or how many gears has he?

@@athlone73 CH won't need another gear to beat Stateman but look at his last race he was given a tiny amount of reign and scooted clear, the gears are there if he wants it. You can also see in the supreme how far from the line he pulls him up, he'd have won by 35l if he wanted to. Kilcruit Mullins big secret hope last year didn't fly off with Jonbon and Dysart he finished tailed off too. Statemans hurdling is very suspect, i wouldn't be surprised to see him fall when push comes to shove an CH is hunting him down. Nico will look like Charlie Swan on Istabraq, glancing over and laughing at Townend as canters past 2 out on the bridle.

@@rodneymckee8431 he will win champion hurdle by minimum 10L on the bridle. It’s an awful champion hurdle anyway but it’s visually how he destroys everything. That’s the difference. You can tell by watching a horse if it will beat another horse, there is no doubt a peak ista vs a peak constitution will be an easy win for constitution. Too many gears for ista. Even at this early age it’s clear to see constitution is better than ista even tho he’s not won the champion hurdle that is set in stone anyway!

@@rodneymckee8431 ..I was & always will be a massive Istabraq fan. He sets the standard in my opinion, but even he wasn’t demolishing fields like this horse. I agree, Constitution Hill has to do it in the Champion Hurdle & remember Istabraq won it by 12 lengths, but I think Constitution Hill could win it by further. He’s also a much bigger horse than Istabraq, so could be as good over fences. He’s got the potential to be an all time great if he stays sound.

Money for old rope, the F/C with Epitante. Was the most certain thing in racing, instead of backing it at 1/7. I got about 4/7. On the F/C. And won quite a lot of dosh. More please!!!!. We are going to have the smallest field the champ hurdle has ever seen. Now that is NOT racing. Honeysuckle is now staying away from the hill. And going for the mares hurdle. In my opinion Honeysuckle is the greatest mare and jumper of hurdles that I have ever seen. She wins between 2 miles and 3 miles. With many grade 1 wins. Constitution hill is only 5. And only had a hand full of races. He will have plenty of time of maturity. But horses are NOT machines and can only beat what is put in front of them. There is absolutely no doubt that Constitutional hill. Will mope up what he can, before he makes the high ranks of steeplechasing. But for god sake DONT keep putting the hill in with the ranks of the wonder years, of supreme hurdlers. Persian war, High Ken, Bula, Major Rose. Comedy of errors, Lanzarote, Night nurse, Monksfield, Sea pigeon, Dawn Run, Dramatist, Birds nest. See you then, Istabraq, I will never forget these wonder horses, who all ran true to form.
