Hello everyone! Here is my current polaron tank build post-VIL expansion that I use on my main character for high-end elite content in space in Star Trek Online at the moment. Ty for the great content. I've watched a bunch of your vids recently. There isn't a lot of tanking advice that's current. I haven't played since 2016, and I'm trying to get back into STO, as a tank. I'm not in a fleet and am building up my reps. I have the Fed command battlecruiser pack. Could you point me towards some updated resources on what I should be aiming for? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'll probably add more detail in an updated video around June-ish (as I am working on another project for the channel that is eating up my time...). #1: Brainstorm from Florian's build for tanking from STO Reddit to start. If you have infinite $$$ to spend, his starship traits are very optimal to use (I would use Shield Overload over Invincible for me personally, but...). He not only has a good build, explains why he does things, but updates his builds regularly and typically puts a new post up every 6-12 months of his build so things don't get too messy. www.reddit.com/r/stobuilds/comments/9vl12e/florians_nautilus_a_t6_yorktown_heavy_tank_aod/ . If you can get around 70k-100k dps with 70%+ attacks-in in HSE, your build is more than sufficient and the DPS-chasers in-game won't complain about your build at all. In my opinion, 50k+ in HSE is just fine as a benchmark to be about to tank most other content in the game, especially if you go much more defensive in your traits & skills like I do personally. There isn't a set "meta" for tanking like there is more for the DPS realm, so there is more wiggle room for how much survival you want on your ship vs the dps/threat your ship is bringing in. Your eventual playstyle will probably fall somewhere between Florian & I, and that is totally fine! #2: Current Meta right now for tanking in PvE (according to the DPS players in-game and STO Reddit): Energy Types: Polaron (budget, arguably also tanking here depending...), Disruptors (DPS-most players), Phaser (DPS- top 1% dps players). Deflector: fleet colony deflector. Engines: Competitive Rep. Engines (engie variant). Warp Core: Competitive Warp Core OR Elite Fleet Spire Warp Core. Shields: Competitive Shields. Since you are going without any fleet stuff at all and want the DPS-oriented meta route still, I would go with the Competitive 3-piece (engines, warp core, & shields) and choose a deflector with high hull restoration of your choosing to synergize with the buffed Energy Refrequencer reputation trait. Competitive marks are hard to earn, but if you do Random TFO's you can choose them in the Random TFO marks box. If you don't care as much about the meta, the Kobali 4-piece set is still great for tanking, as well as the Iconian reputation set & the Lukari reputation set. Other Space Sets: sto.gamepedia.com/Set/Space_Items #3: Consoles to consider: **DPRM console (exchange, 2-piece also with phaser/disruptor builds, good dps/survival console) -- sto.gamepedia.com/Synergistic_Retrofitting_Set **Reiterative Structural Capacitor (weekend store; basically reverse shield polarity for your hull) -- sto.gamepedia.com/Console__-Universal-__Reiterative_Structural_Capacitor **Protomatter Field Projector (great AoE healing): sto.gamepedia.com/Alliance_Multi-Mission_Systems_Set. If you don't have it account-unlocked, the Overloaded SIF Linkage console from the C-Store Europa is a good alternative: sto.gamepedia.com/Console__-Universal-__Overloaded_SIF_Linkage **Regenerative Integrity Field: a good oldie console you probably have, but still works well and adds more hull restoration to buff Energy Refrequencer. If you don't have it account-unlocked, the Temporal Trajectory Shifter from the C-Store Support Cruiser/Battlecruiser is a good alternative: sto.gamepedia.com/Console__-Universal-__Temporal_Trajectory_Shifter [this ship also has the History will Remember trait -- which is a SUPER GOOD starship trait for tanks nowadays]. ^^Tactical consoles: obviously vulnerability locators are the meta in tactical consoles. Without fleet, just get the energy type you are using. Without a fleet, you can't do a rainbow build with several energy types (as the scaling on beam tac consoles off the fleet is different than with fleet consoles, while energy type console on/off the fleet have the same damage % scaling. not sure why but that is how it is). I generally try to have about 1/2 my consoles for damage & threat and 1/2 the consoles for survival. Some consoles can count for both easily, but that is my general rule.

Not a problem! I have a phaser build on the channel as well. Take out some of the more expensive traits from it and put it on a cheaper starship & it will perform well.
