Sorry to be a spoilsport for your title 😟. I really wish these birds were native to Australia, but I could not remember seeing or hearing about them growing up there. I did some basic research and found that the Moluccan salmon crested cockatoos (Cacatua moluccensis), are native to the Maluku (Moluccas) Islands of the Seram Archipelago in eastern Indonesia, (North of Australia). They are my favorite type of cockatoos, and Barney is my most favorite of all 💙💙💙💙💙 Since I left Australia, sulphur crested cockatoos have moved into Sydney and Melbourne and there is a project going on in Sydney with tagged birds that people can photograph or film and then post to a social media website. It started as part of a research project, but was so popular that it now continues with the birds all having their own names and celebrity status.
