One can receive Coinage from the Mint that is far from perfect, One must remember that, Not all coins created are handled equally

Sadly eBay has become a dumping ground for defective and damaged coins
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
It's probably best to buy graded coins as you tend to know what you're getting 👍🏽

total waste of money. all these so called collectables, has only melt value
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
@weilee9928 that's not true, coin collector's do actually pay a little premium for proof coins. Stacking is a different matter.

I don’t have a coin shop near me so I buy most of my coins on eBay and About 75-85% of the coins I receive are defective or damaged and I have to return to eBay, it’s really frustrating and I have stopped buying because I’m tired of all the work to return them.
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
@WesD808 I can understand your frustration if that's what you're experiencing. I have bought quite a few good coins on ebay and found some deals too.

Bit of back luck on that one, U.C. I've got PF70's with very light hairlines - NGC are forgiving with those but any heavy hairlines or wipe marks will knock it back 1, 2 or 3 grades. The worst result I had back was a 1992 double proof sov @ PF64 (ugh!). Couldn't determine condition till conservation removed 30 years worth of dust, grease, etc and then they see how bad it is. Still sold to a dealer for slightly more than spot, so no real loss except grading fees.
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
@johnlee4897 The art to grading is to start with a good coin, I've had some really bad grades over the years so thats what im trying to do now. I can't believe the luck you had with that pf70 Coin, I've had coins come back in pf69 and can't see any imperfections 🤷♂️

I don’t think that you’re being too picky. A lot of us collectors are perfectionists. We pay good money for quality coins and expect precisely that.
@user-cw9qn1nb2nАй бұрын
Pity you couldn't see that scratching with full magnification on Ebay. I expect it on 19th Century sovereigns, but would be mortified to receive that coin in that condition. Are you intending to keep it?
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
@user-cw9qn1nb2n I've sent back already and received a full refund, the seller was understanding. New coin arrived Saturday morning, already graded & slabbed 👍🏽

How much did you pay for it . That might be relevant to whether you're being picky or not .

Buying gold on eBay is like a drunk walking on a mine field. So you have any idea how many fakes (really good fakes) are sold there?
@theurbancoincollectorАй бұрын
I've been buying gold on ebay for years !! I've never bought a fake coin, I tend to stick to coins from the Royal mint. Commemorative coins and packaging is difficult to replicate.
