Maybe the house doesn’t want you to move. Just be thankful that the leak in the pipe is not directly under the driveway because ours was in the way our waterline was ran. We would’ve had to dig up about 30 feet of concrete diagonally not to mention a magnolia tree was sitting near it. That’s probably what broke the line was all the roots from that tree. We had to get the city to come out and put us a new water meter in so we could run a straight line through the yard into the house. That was the cheapest option. Although our water heater went out too, and started leaking, but luckily it was in the utility room underneath the carport which is at least 3 foot below the floors of our house and this was back in the late 90s at the house. I grew up in I kind of miss that house but I don’t miss the neighborhood now. It’s not exactly safe anymore. Like Murphy’s Law says anything that can go wrong will go wrong. But I do hope you guys do not run into any more problems dealing with that house.

My parents have been trying to move out of their house for 10 years! Its in a horrible neighborhood so I'm doing what I can to help them out but just like your situations, it seems something HUGE breaks or happens just when they get ahead in life. I'm so sorry this is happening to you as well.

Actually, I would argue that you did succeed at life during 2023. A lot of bad things happened, but you all stayed together as a family, and how a family is supposed to. Supporting each other and staying strong, even when it feels like you are walking up an escalator that's moving down the other direction. That's one hell of a family bond, that is probably only something that you'd realize during/after these bad home disasters - that you stick together, even when life hits you hard. That said, I still believe you all need a break from all of this, and I wish 2024 to be a better year in terms of the home-situation! Hang in there big pappa!

Life tip for anyone reading the comments your basic homeowners insurance does not usually the cover the pipes coming to and from your house. They occasionally break and it can sometimes be very expensive. So when they offer you the add-on for that on your insurance policy if you’re financially able it’s a good idea to take it, especially if your home’s pipes are older.

I can relate. I had one and didn't know what was going on for nearly three months. There was just standing water in my back yard that made no sense. My water bill was hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Found out later after much excavating that the water main broke underneath the footings so that basically the entire house was pretty much floating in water.

I cannot believe how big the kids have gotten. I am so sorry you've had such bad luck with the house, I remember when you guys made the move from Alaska to Oklahoma. That house is a gorgeous money pit though. Do not count the homeowners insurance from not covering that waterline break because it could potentially be added on to the claim from the flood. Especially if it is a line that connects to what caused your flood inside!

Being a homeowner can have many money pit moments! Our sewer pipe had tree roots growing in it. We've done the temporary fix, they got the roots out, bur its going to cost us $5000+ for the pipe to be replaced. Sorry for all of your house troubles!

We had the same issues right as we tried to sell, everything was going wrong 😂 top it all off, the inspection found a leak in our septic in the front yard. I knew the grass there was too green lol

Yeah if the main is deep enough they bring in a mini excavator. Which cost more but gets to the pipe faster. Meanwhile you're without water while its worked on. Yippee.

Cory, I'm so sorry for your tribulations with your house! We went through a good bit of similar with our home we bought in 2015 from flippers (will never do that again!). Had a leaking roof that a piece of ceiling fell in from. Had water leaking from a shower that got into master bath, bedroom, hall, and hall bath. Then the cherry on top was a sagging ceiling where a supporting wall was removed. It's all fixed now and I just wanna get out of here! 😂

Hey Cory, long time viewer here. Could you delve more into what caused the hot water tank to fail and flood the basement? How old was the tank? Was there any minor leakages to point to any kind of possible problems? I'm always curious about this stuff.

Ugh... I feel your pain really! Have you seen the part of the Grinch with Jim Carrey when everyone is forcing fudge down his throat, and he starts yelling, "Is that all you got?" That's what I have felt like. Over the last year, my car has died, my refrigerator died, 2 AC units died, my gas line rusted out and was explosive at Christmas, my water line has clogged and flooded the laundry room, both of my new AC units quit this summer but thankfully were covered. We are wanting to move closer to Tulsa because of work, but part of me is thinking well atleast I know this stuff is new at my house. What if I get in another money pit. I may have to just buy new if I ever get out of here. Good luck!!!

oh mannnn... sorry that is all happening! I remember you coming home to the storm, but I didn't know the (or i forgot) the whole downstairs flooded. That bathroom will be beautiful tho! and I love the new floors. The $2100 to fix the main is NOT BAD at all! (compared to Long Island prices!). It would be at least double that here. IDK about you but here the weater company covers 6-10 feet in from the main street shutoff, after that it's homeowner responsibility. We have a company that sends mail weekly for insurance to cover past that 6-10 feet. Maybe see if you have that down there. I'm guessing if one part broke, unless you're changing the entire main, it may go in another spot. I would look into that. Everyone looks great and I'm glad your job is going so well!

The way I see it, if you weren't planning on staying in that house, you wouldn't be changing things to be the way you want. If you wanted to leave, you would have just repaired it back to what it was for the most part, and then attempt to flip it, leaving any changes for the new residents to decide on what to do. And while your kids are going to a school that is 25 minutes away, that's still not terrible considering you live in a western state where things are sprawled apart. Everything has kind of always been spread out in the US, but if you can reliably depend on those 25 minutes and it's not a trip with heavy traffic (or maybe that is how long it takes with traffic) that's still pretty good. No, it's not ideal, but unless you guys just really don't like your living situation sans the unpredictable accidents, this is your home. If you absolutely can't decide, I guess you're just going to have to make pros and cons lists and weigh them against each other.

With two breaks to your water lines into the house and in the house, I wonder if the city did upgrades to things on their end to cause the breaks in the lines. The city over from where I live, did upgrades causing the pressure to increase slightly. It was hard on the old infrastructure throughout the city and caused problems like what your having. I would ask the city. Im sorry all of this has happened to you guys. Its no fun. First world problems, right?

The break was in a main water line coming from the street but it wasn’t caused by the storm. It was just an earth shift that eventually broke the pipe.
