So thankful I watched this second video. Like you my lockii.took off and bloomed but now it regularly yellows too. I will be changing the growing mix today.

After keeping and selling Hoya lockii for a number of years, I lost mine this past winter. I suspect that it was just too cold for it in my tents, and the leaves just kept getting more and more yellow. I finally gave up and tossed what was left of the plant. Overall I would have to say that it is pretty finicky, and not nearly as easy to grow as Hoya multiflora.

I lost my H. lockii over the winter, as I guess that it was just to cool for it; so sadly, there will be no more cuttings of that one.

Ohhh sorry to know this:(

@@dinamourelatos4316 Well, I had it for a long time, so I'm not too upset that it is gone as H. multiflora is so much easier to grow with much nicer looking leaves.

Thank you, just got one 2 weeks ago and needed care instructions, mine came from overseas into Canada and it is a very nice specimen, I have been keeping mine in a west window with high humidity and the flower buds are literally turning green, not sure if that is sign that it is going to flower, would be amazing if you ask me, is quite a different looking Hoya 👍
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a great Hoya as long as you know how to take care of it as it can rapidly go down hill if you don't.

This is such a godsend, Doug. Guess what I was just getting ready to give yet another try with yet another iffy rooting medium? Sure enough, yet another lockii cutting sitting in water that started getting what? Yellow leaves! Have you ever been successful rooting lockii in water? What is your take on pure perlite? I once managed to root it really well in a mix of clay granules and perlite. My mistake was to sell it, trusting the nice cutting I had taken would root equally as well ... Never happened, and hasn't worked again since! I've long pondered the question of whether a bark/mineral mix would go well with sphagnum, suspecting the sphagnum might start rotting somewhere down the line, thus spoiling the entire pot ... So, according to you, this should certainly not pose a problem?

I feel your pain with leaves yellowing on lockii! I have lost a number of them to that condition, and I've never seen a yellowing leaf turn green again no matter what treatment is given. As far as "down the line" posing a problem, I'm not too worried; at this point I'm just glad to have a couple of happy plants that are growing well for a few months. I figure if the mix starts to go bad, I will just take cuttings. So far though, the plants are doing amazing and I don't see why I can't just transplant them into larger pots, and just keep them doing well. I will report back when more time has passed as to how they continue to grow.

Thanks for this! I've had my lockii for about 9 months and it hasn't really grown... like you mentioned, the lower leaves keep yellowing and dropping. It's in a chunky mix... I think maybe I'm not watering often enough because I usually let my other hoyas dry out a bit. It somehow has a new peduncle now 🤷♀️ Thanks for the tips!

Thanks so much for the Video.Do you keep them in direct sun?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas4 жыл бұрын
I've only grown Hoya lockii under artificial lighting and outside in the summer under pretty heavy shade. Direct sun except for maybe an hour would be too much for this plant.

Is this the same as multiflora? I just ordered a multiflora. Would a self watering pot help. Will try the soil mix you mention. Any other pointers? Wish me luck.
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas4 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, It's care requirements are very similar to Hoya lockii, but multiflora is far easier to grow. As long as you don't let it go totally dry, it should thrive for you. A self watering pot should work nicely for it!

How does this compare to the white multiflora or is this the white multiflora?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas2 жыл бұрын
This is a separate and distinct species from H. multiflora and not being a botanist I can’t give you the differences. I can only telling you that Hoya lockii is more difficult to grow than any multiflora that I have ever grown.

Just ordered a lockeii cutting from overseas on eBay. Assuming it arrives in a revivable condition, this info will help a lot. For your rootbound one, do you think it's possible to cut the pot and saucer off and maybe trim the roots?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas7 жыл бұрын
Good luck with the Hoya lockii that you ordered from Thailand! It would take a fair amount of work to cut the pot and saucer apart to get that plant out of its predicament. I guess that I could give it a try and if it took a turn for the worse, I could just chop it into cuttings. I may just give it a try when I have a little bit more time. Thanks for the suggestion Lesley and once again good luck with your lockii when it arrives.

Bende bu cicek var yaprakları döküldü ne yapmam lazim
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas5 ай бұрын
Bu yetiştirilmesi kolay bir bitki değil. Artık saklamıyorum. Tüm yapraklarınız döküldüyse yaşayamayacağını düşünüyorum. Sapı gerçekten yeşilse, onu yeniden köklendirebilirsiniz ancak kolay olmayacaktır.
