Need you a dial indicator for checking the wheels. Replace the needle. Give you exact measurement on how much it’s out, and when and where it’s out.
@jonS-426 ай бұрын
That’s the kind of thing that would drive me crazy every time I go out and ride. You hit those speeds and it’s always reminding you something’s wrong. Not to mention I’d have to think it’s harder on the other bearings. I’d ride it and enjoy it for a while but at your leisure look for another option

Get a few miles on it. It may work itself out. Even some new wheels have a slight bend. If that is the same tire that was on it when it was bent it probably took a minor "set" to the bend. Also try different air pressures.
@BrandonBicasso6 ай бұрын
Yeah. Ima let it ride for awhile. It’s not worth changing the wheel or tire for how it handles. Diminishing returns.

Did you check your steering head bearings? If they're a little bit loose, they can cause those vibrations to come and go at different speeds. The run out on that wheel is truer than most spoke wheels get. Unless your speeds are triple digit, you shouldn't see that much shake. Also, you should replace the smaller wheel bearing that is nicked. Heat generated from the imperfection will cause spalling and lifting of the hardened surface. Of course, you're probably already on the wheel bearing, but check those steering head bearings out.
@BrandonBicasso6 ай бұрын
I’ll have to check them again but I replaced it when rebuilding the bike. Everything on the front end is new except the wheel. Could be the tire. When I swapped the wheel for the stock Chief wheel/tire, didn’t have the problem. Luckily, a small adjustment is not hard to do on the stem bearing.

funny thing about balancing, i watched a video where a yt'r was noticing the 'sticker dot' on Goldwing rims. Come to find out, they balance the wheel without the tire..then put the tire 'dot' on that spot to get *_much_* closer to a true balance.
@BrandonBicasso6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I balanced a tire recently for a rider and it didn’t have the red mark like most do. The “DOT” worded area is the balancing spot on some brands.

Would have been cheaper to buy an aftermarket custom wheel. 99/100 once a motorcycle wheel is bent, it’s toast. I personally wouldn’t trust it. But maybe I’ll learn something here from you Brandon. Good luck. By the way, Brandon, I’ve been using balance beads for over 15 years now on every bike I’ve owned. Never, ever an issue. They 100% work. It’s worth a try.

You might eliminate the shake by switching out the bearing, man I really want to get a chief one of these days...

@@BrandonBicasso what kinda $ am I looking at and a picture??
Was talking to the local tire shop guy about this. He said it could potentially be the tire causing the shaking. He said he has gotten tires that he could not balance. He suggests taking it to a tire shop and having them put it on the machine to spin balance it. Replace that bearing if you’re gonna have the wheel off again.
@snowmanrainmaker6 ай бұрын
I guess my question would be at this point if you had it to do all over again after finding out that it really couldn't be fixed correctly completely would you do it again or junk it?
@BrandonBicasso6 ай бұрын
Hard to say. It's the difference of $300/time to try a fix and $400/time to find another and recoat it. The flow of the wheel is better and the finish wasn't horribly destroyed. Plus, knowledge gained which is worth more than junking the wheel. Sort of like going through the frame correction process on the black Super Chief. That was an $1800 repair to $3000 new. Knowledge was worth more than the $1200 difference. Also, you (and others) saw that process and got insight. If I can afford it, I'd go for the fix. I'm lucky my wheel is cheapish and made into a custom wheel. Someone may have a 1 of 1 wheel that's hard to replace so repair may be the only option. Now they know.
@snowmanrainmaker6 ай бұрын
@@BrandonBicasso I know you're just personally settling with what you ended up with, but in my opinion it lowers the quality of your first class rebuilds. It's just something that you're going to feel and be aware of every time you get on and off that bike which is going to change the way I feel about the riding experience. I have a 2016 Indian Scout and the smile on my face when I get on and off of it every time is worth everything I have into it.

@TheBaldDog326 ай бұрын
@@BrandonBicasso If it was that, could be harmonics/frequency of the impact/wobble. In short its ALWAYS there but you're only noticing it because a certain combination of timings, frequencies, stacking impact forces, etc causes it to exceed what you're bike will naturally hide.

Bro, I'm not going to sit here and tell you how much money means to you, or how easily you should spend it. That being said.... life is too short, and wind-therapy too important to deal with this. I strongly support getting a new wheel. I wouldn't even try to re-fix that one. That would give me NUTS knowing about it every single time I rode. Honestly it would make me want to ride less. Also, you're being FAR too polite to this wheel shop. That thing should have been buttery smooth and perfect or they shouldn't have done it/charged you. This may be why so many shops refused to take the work.... but when people don't perform to reasonable expectations, then don't give them a free pass.
@BrandonBicasso6 ай бұрын
Shops refused the work because they couldn’t fit the wheel on their machines used to repair car wheels. Nothing to do with the wheel being bent. Knowledge gained for next time. 🤙🏾

Brandon, if your intent is to sell or raffle the bike, it has to be right. A known bent wheel with a bad bearing is absolutely no good, for liability purposes if nothing else. Make it right or don't do it.
