A reverse image search on the speaker reveals this to be a vintage fire house speaker used "to tone out vehicles for fire calls and for a PA speaker" according to a seller on Etsy. Your speaker is missing the adjustable wall mount.

My suggestion is get some reference books on things you like as well as books on general line antiques. By getting educated you will know when you see a great deal or sleeper. You can feed your hobby by making great deals and flipping the items.
