We are back, your favorite first time, rookie farmers (Dana & Lauren) from @freedomfarmsny in New York with another episode of Freedom Farms TV!
Another day of action on the farm, LIVE from Freedom Farms in Greene, NY and a walk and talk to discuss what we have happening at the farm- there is always something happening on our farm when you have cows, goats, chickens, pigs, and some sheep!
We love introducing those in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Northeast PA (AND now- we ship nationwide!) to our farm fresh meats- they taste amazing!
Now, we are even shipping our meats nationwide which we are really excited about.
Upstate New York's Favorite family farm with Upstate New York's best grass-fed beef and pasture raised pork- we do some free-range chickens and fresh thanksgiving turkey's too!
Check out today's video..
Today we go on a walking tour of the farm to show you some work the Amish did for us- but things quickly turn for the worse when on the walk we see a calf that is not doing well in the pasture. The hawks are already on him and this is the tough part of farming in the winter.
🌱🚜 Enjoy todays episode!

Of all the members of society, farmers are, by far, the most important. Farmers feed us. You are greatly appreciated.

Love and respect for everything you do and service you provide for the free loving people in our State. Your services are so essential, your product is more conducive to a healthier way of life than what can be purchased in the supermarket. I pray for your success and am saddened by the loss of one of your calves. No doubt that the Amish are the gold standard for what they do. Having a relationship with them would bare good fruits. I think I speak for everyone when I say God bless you and your family.

My sister has been beef ranching on the Montana plains for 45 years. I summarized your video with the fact that your young ones have no shelter from the cold and wind, according to what I saw in the video. Her is her reply. Oh, boy, yep we fight that also. If they use round bales of hay, they can use them to make a wind break. The cows will also eat them, but so what? They will anyway. Should make it, or several shelters, in a slight curve or chevron blocking the wind. (Point side into the wind) I also know that those calves won't overeat, so allowing them access to the bales would be good.

I enjoyed your discussion in this video, even showing the real life events that occur on the farm - the dreaded sight of buzzards, ugh😔 We never want to see animals die and we do everything within our power to ensure it will not happen. In reality, however, there is no escaping the probability of it occurring (as the vet advised), especially during the weather event we experienced last week. There is almost a 100% certainty to have flooding rains, snow and ice and the mud this time of year that makes livestock management so difficult. We plan accordingly as you discussed. Despite the odds, we keep pressing on to it make it better for the animals. Just like you said - they come first. Any time left is considered a bonus. I pray for the sun to shine on your beautiful farm and a prosperous 2024 ahead. The barn gable looks great and the Amish workmanship speaks for itself.

it would help also if farmers could find 1 farm group who WILL support farmers for a better or steady wage! thats why a LOT of farmers ARE building up now to sell direct and get RID of the middle man!

@@freedomfarmsny to minimize flat tires. We had lots of flat tires after an old order Mennonite/new order Amish team built our CAFO dairy barn 19 years ago.

I live in an area that let’s just say we don’t have farms. I hope you find an answer to your problem with the babies. I watched a number of different sites on the Internet that have to do with farming because I was curious. Check out, Sandi Brock Her family owns a grain farm in Canada near Lake Erie. And they spend an awful lot of time controlling the flow of water in and around their fields. That might help you try to work on the water issue on your fields. She also raises sheep, which I know you’re not raising, but babies are babies . There is a hoof trimmer in Scotland. The hoof GP. He takes care of the animals feet, but he can also tell you an awful lot about the type of brown cover you should and should not use for your animals. You just look him up and watch a couple of his videos. I wish you the best of luck with all your problems. And like I said, I’m not a farmer but I enjoy watching farmers and they have some of the same problems you have. Look them up. You might find some helpful information. And you also might be able to talk to them and they could help you maybe figure out a few things. Good luck, Kathy.

It might help you to buy and learn to ride a saddle horse to move about your property. They (the horse) will learn your habits and become a tremendous advantage. Life and death on a farm is a fact of life, so get used to it. Same category as the birth of new calves. Life cycles.
