@Ocean Blue The film is an adaptation of the Cinderella story, told in broad strokes, and doesn't constrain itself to just telling the fairy tale, point-by-point. There's no magic. Danielle and Henry both look and act like real people, and both go through very meaty, substantial character arcs. They also spend a lot of time together and actually develop their romance organically. "Cinderella" isn't a story with a character who has one canon personality, anyway. It's a fairy tale with origins across countless different countries and cultures. The biggest thing they all have in common is that the titular character is kind-hearted, and Danielle is definitely that. It's well-paced, brilliantly acted, dramatic where it needs to be, without taking itself too seriously... I can't praise it enough, honestly. Do yourself a favor and watch the whole movie before you judge. I was being hyperbolic and silly with my original comment, but it really is excellent.
@de_lahn6 жыл бұрын
To everyone who doesn't know Alison from The Breakfast Club dressed how she did as a way to get attention without anyone approaching her because she was shy and scared. The transformation was to signify her no longer being afraid of others.
@trinaq6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for understanding the point of the scene!🙌 So many people I know are horrified by Allison's sudden transformation because they identified with her when she was a "basketcase", than as a "princess". She was hiding behind her dark get-up, and thanks to Claire's makeover, she shows that she wants the friends and attention that she desperately craves.
@netajones20986 жыл бұрын
@@trinaq So glad to see other people who understand this ☺ And while a lot of people like how Alison looked dressed in her "basketcase/goth" clothes and makeup style more than her "normal" makeover look, they don't realize that this was the 80s and Gothic style/fashion was not as widely known and accepted as it is now. I was an 80's child and I remember kids that dressed Goth or similar to Alison, we're thought of as weird and freaks and made fun of constantly. Sad but true. I'm glad times have changed.
@dashachess42046 жыл бұрын
Post this message in another comment, but it deserves here too: instead of a makeover, she should've gotten confidence within her own comfort of clothes instead of looking like everyone else. That makeover was obviously not herself and again she didn't really have the confidence for changing her look completely to get attention from a boy TO APPROACH HER. When your not afraid, you lift your chin high and don't give a fuck, rather than letting popular chick change who you are.
@de_lahn6 жыл бұрын
@@dashachess4204 Those clothes weren't her in the first place. She only dressed like that to get attention without anyone approaching her. The clothes signify who she truly is as a person an what she's really like. Also the guy throughout the movie we were given hints he wanted her.
@dashachess42046 жыл бұрын
I understand what ur saying better, but I still don't agree. He did hit on her and she didn't get the hints and changed her look. Okay, she dressed dark to get attention without approach and now she dressed to get attention with approach. Doesn't sound any better than what it was. I don't see those clothes as who she is really is as a person unlike that popular girl, she didn't pull off normal clothes unlike something that is unordinary (at least at that time).

Is there a male version of this? Because, again, it’s always women’s appearances that causes problem, and this famous “ugly duckling” makeover thing in movies is saying that you have to wear makeup or nice clothes or that you need perfectly shaped eyebrows to achieve your goals (which is often finding a guy... or worst for the guy that you liked since the beginning finally notices you...). Even though it’s fun to watch, it’s really not empowering for women and that’s a shame that you guys didn’t say anything about that aspect in the video because in some others you talk about these things... Just some things to think about ;)
@misspriss24825 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that's pretty much how it is. When you don't conform to beauty standards, it's much harder to get male attention. Most guys look over you. That's why most women conform and go for the hair, make-up, and dresses.

Makeovers are shit. Every woman is unique and she is a beautiful creation of GOD. I always pray to God after watching such scenes or movies. Why are they turning original creations of God into cookie-cutter chicks? My only prayer is that when we will accept people(especially women) for who they really are. I also pray to God to protect the individuality and uniqueness of a woman from the corruption known as beauty standards. Hopefully, standards of prettiness will end and UNIQUENESS=BEAUTY

That's true, all of them look good "before" and "after" their makeovers, but the title is invoking the classic story of the "Ugly Duckling's" transformation into a swan.
