Great haul and excellent prices 👍 nice to find titles you were looking for. If you enjoy dark horror, Michael McDowell is an excellent read.

@@revenantreads my hubby just bought me the book a few weeks ago, as it is now one book rather than 6 small ones. I started the series over 40 years ago but my library didn't have the last 2, ugh. Have been waiting to finish ever since. Now itching to read it and find out how it ends, but, lol, at the moment too many other reads in the works. He also wrote a number of scripts for movies - Beetlejuice, Thinner and another one I can't remember at the moment.

Historical fiction, my favourite genre👍. Some great pick ups there. I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks travelling in Iceland in the spring. What a mind blowing, magical land it is! I looked at the Sagas of the Icelanders a few times as we were exposed to some of the sagas while we were there. Maybe I should snag it sometime.

Iceland is definitely a bucket list destination for me. I highly recommend the sagas, though the ones that are in the big omnibus that I showed may not be the ideal places to start. Sagas range from highly legendary to more like historical fiction. I’m partial to Egil’s Saga as a first step - it’s got action and mysticism and feels somewhat historically grounded.

Nice set of new books I like the variety. I read Graveyard Book a couple years ago, I was underwelmed by it.

HI Vin. Great book haul! I also have that Neil Gaiman book on my shelves and have yet to read it. Maybe this year....Davud Grann is pretty terrific. I haven't read The Lost City, but I have read Killers of the Flower Moon and also The Wager by him. Good stuff.

Thanks! Yes, I forgot to mention that I plan on reading The Wager next month for Q3 of Historathon.

@@revenantreads it’s good. I read it for the first round of the Book Tube Prize judging. It made it to the second round, but I think it may have been eliminated in the third round. Still, it’s a really compelling read.

The Revenant would be a good one for the Revenant Reads prompt in my Booktuber Name tag 😂 The Graveyard Book is probably my second favourite Gaiman I've read, definitely one of his best but he's never blown me away. I have the same copy of the sagas, it's a beauty. The Lost City of Z is good too, I read it after Endurance by Lansing and it didn't quite live up to that level but I liked it. A Distant Mirror was great, I have not got round to The Guns of August yet. H is for Hawk is a brilliant and very strange book, it also is a bit of an analysis of T. H. White, there's a lot of pale imitations of it popping up now.

Nice finds, Vin. I knew that if anyone had a first copy of that edition of the Viking sagas, it was you. 😀 Apparently my library sales are a little later in the year: next Friday, 8/23, and one in October. Looking forward to sharing all the loot!

Nice pickup! Gaimain's Norse Mythology was pretty good. I listened to the audio book which he narrated. It's a nice introduction into the Nordic myths. I know you're well read in that topic so it would be interesting to see what your take is on his work.

Thanks! I expect Gaiman takes a lot of liberties with the stories from the Eddas, so it will probably be fun seeing the ways he tries to fill the gaps.

I've been lobbying for a Guns of August in August but there are too many events at the moment. I have it, but haven't read it yet. I should read it this month and tip GarbAugust in the bin.
