Its simplistic fantasy for a teenager which puts this genius kid on the level of a Elon Musk.. I appreciate how simple stories are just effective enough to capture your attention. kid drives up in his Ferrari at his lab. Runs experiment. Freak lightening strike sends him into another world..LOL short efficient premise is all we need to start playing the game. I love it!! LOL

A lot of people find Blender, Maya or cinema 4d hard to learn, imagine making this animation with basically 0 tutorials or resources. This a golden example of discipline at its finest, Eric Chahi made everything alone: artwork, animations, programming. The guy is a genius.

to be fair, the music was made by another guy, and the music is what makes this intro so good. It has this "end of the world" vibe, typical in the 90s.. similar to the vibe of terminator and the like..

I absolutely loved this game! It captured my imagination at a young age, like no other game could. With an immersive story and without any dialog needed, I felt for the characters. Games like this stand testament to the need for great storylines and imaginative atmospheres, as opposed to ramped up graphics or Hollywood esque cutscenes, for making a video game memorable and a great experience to play.

I believe this is a special edition of Another World created by Eric Chahi himself for the game's 15th anniversary, which features higher resolution background graphics. And yes, because polygons are used to render the characters, nothing had to be changed there. Just a resolution increase.

Well I've had a year to think about it ;). I reckon it hangs on something me old dad said when I was drawing as a nipper: leave some lines out...leave some gaps for the imagination. The job of the graphics in games is, I'd say, to suggest something to the player's perception. Life-like rendering stays in front of the eye but something that only 'suggests' a form can sneak into the subconscious and spark recognition... like a kid with a stick - the possibilities are endless.

Yeah, I think people get caught up with making things look realistic, manage aspects of gameplay, choose voices, and all that, that they end up not having time or focus on a true story. It's hard to find a game that treats itself as a movie or as a book, which is quite upsetting.

@lordsofkoble It was Eric Chahi's wishes that there was to be no sequels to Another World, but they did make Heart of the Alien (Eric Chahi had nothing to do with the sequel) as I said, he wanted it left with just the single game and for the gamers to come to their own conclusions to what happened after the Alien and Lester leave on the big Pterodactyl type monster

If I was a director I would love, LOVE, to make a movie of Another World featuring CERN. But I imagine they'd never allow it seeing as there is enough controversy around the LHC already without someone releasing a movie about a particle accelerator accident... Lester arrives at CERN in his Ferrari in the pouring rain, it's 1:06AM, he runs past the statue of Shiva holding his jacket over his head and into the main lobby, it's empty, he greets the lone guard and exchanges small talk in French and shows his ID. Downstairs he enters a minor control room knowing that he'd find a certain colleague and asks, this time in English, "Have your guys put the SPS back in the collider? I fancy another bash at our theory." He is told the synchrotron is free until the following night. Further downstairs Lester walks across the floor of the cavern that contains ALICE, the machine is mid-refurbishment and cranes and jigs and hoists are holding enormous parts of the complexity 30 metres above him. He doesn't have to go this way but prefers the elevator down to ALICE over the 8 flights of stairs that leads to his office by the face of the SPS. It's 1:16AM and the rain above is turning into a storm...

Well, you needn't continue doubting and disbelieving because, luckily for us, the Japanese did both know about and own plenty of Amigas just as they own plenty of Apples and Dells and HPs today (while we in the west own Sonys and Matsushitas). But getting back to the software end of things, I must say that AW, Ico, and SotC are easily in my top ten games of all time. I would love to see Chahi return to creating new games and inspiring many more brilliant Japanese and western developers alike.

This was one of the first games that I thought would've made a great movie, but no doubt if it was made by made by Hollywood they would screw it up so it doesn't resemble the original game. If not a movie, then a TV series would be great. I would watch it!! I loved this intro and I remember being VERY impressed at the time, I still am now! This gives me goosebumps just watching it, the game was hard in places though and I never finished it. This would be trippy on the Xbox360 as a remake!
