This is where he runs to hide from the world, except that each book is a metaphorical window to the world.

What kind of lotion was used to clean and restore the leather bindings of the two books? Thanks.

+Jon Can Looks like Marney's Conservation Cream from the brief glimpse of the container but I couldn't tell. I have the "Bookbinding and the Care of Books" by Douglas Cockerell which appears to be a classic. Page 303, he said the best yet is plain old petroleum jelly. Yup, good ole Vaseline. This is also recommended by WisdomPedlars on Ebay, one, if not the best book seller on Ebay.

Thank you for the insight. I currently use Bibliopathos Beauty Cream for Centuries Old Leather from ebay. It seems to work, but doesn't seem to moisturize as much as the cream in this video. I read somewhere that museums/libraries no longer use non-drying oil based lleather conditioners.

Jon Can I'm not sure I have a lot of faith in Bibliopathos cream. There is a lot of hype. Good leather creams don't have to cost very much to get the job done.

I don't know anything about the product or book care but I was concerned about all the rubbing over gilt, fearing he would damage the decoration.

Putting oils or lotions on an older book is usually not a good idea, as it can damage the binding, causing it to become softer and thus separate from the cover faster than it would through the natural course of time passed.

Let them stop printing, I don't read any books past 1900 anyway! Seriously, it was sad to hear him state that he fears for the future of the printed book. I wonder how much they want for that 'Chuzzlewit'?

If that book packer were working for me, he wouldn't keep his job.A set of books like that, not individually wrapped in bubble wrap, is cause to lose his job!!!!!

JohnnyMidnyte You are right. It is a good thing for him. But then I noticed it was transport to a fair so I spoke/typed too fast. Still, each protects his own the way s/he thinks fit.

+Necalli Ayala fuck utility and ease of access? I know it's a loss, but ebooks will eventually become indispensable tools. Carriages may be more elegant and grand, but we all use cars now. Let's keep buying print as long as it's printed, though :P

***** You know how control government will have with A world where only Ebooks exist? they will be able to control the knowledge the public receives in the click of A button. With out one physically owning the knowledge we will obtain we give people of higher power the ability to more easily manipulate what we learn. Id hate to live in A world where nothing is no longer physical. Look at what happened to music when it went digital. I have cds and records of songs you can not find online and I treasure them. You get more attached to something physical then something that is not there, therefore appreciating it a whole lot more. To this day I think the Ipod is a horrible invention along with Digital music stores. It ruined the music industry. Notice how Vinyl are coming back and we don't allow them to die because people who actually value their music want to hear it in the best quality and own their music physically for the rest of their lives. Nothing is better then A collection of your favorite albums or books. These are things that people treasure and pass down for generations. Lets see you do that with an ipod or an Ebook. Like people who love music, the people who love the art of books and reading will not let the book die. One of the greatest inventions of all time.
