This makes me miss my grandmother and Uncle Paul. They both passed away during the year if 2017 in a car crash. Christmas was always so exciting and warm with them, especially with my grandma, she gave so much gifts to me, my siblings, and my cousins. Ever since they both died, Christmas was never the same. It just got colder.

For me this song isn’t about a person that I used to know but a person I used to be. I used to be happy, smiling so bright singing Christmas songs, feeling so proud when I took a baked treat out of the oven, laughing and yelling as I went sledding down a hill, and getting so excited as I watched my family open my homemade gifts and when I opened mine. That person is gone, now I’m sad and depressed. Christmas songs all feel out of tune, I beat myself up inside when my cookies are even the slightest bit dark, when I do go sledding I’m worrying about the trees at the bottom instead of enjoying the ride down and I feel like no one will actually like my gifts and they will just get thrown in a closet never to be seen again.

“Christmas got colder without you” This hits different since my great grandfather died on the 24th of December of 2019 and my uncle was diagnosed with cancer two years later on the same day… Christmas has always been my favourite holiday but with all the pain now it’s always a difficult tie of the year too… I can’t wait for it to come but I’m also scared of what might happen and it always gets colder if I think of losing the ones that I loved. Thank you Anson for helping me so much every day, not just on Christmas ❤️
