You are wise! I got answers to some questions I didn't even know I had. You alluded to spending 6 months to create a project, and that is so important to remember. We are used to seeing content creators finish an awesome project in one episode. The reality is that it takes time and patience to create something beautiful.

Absolutely. That’s the hardest thing about my channel. I remember one project (my midcentury credenza restoration) took 9 weekends.

I contact papered my IKEA desk (the top and keyboard 'drawer') at least ten years ago and it did last - and I'm sure the contact paper quality is even better now.

AITA for not remembering to send Katie a photo of my kitchen so she didn't have to mock it up? Yes. Is Katie a paint whisperer for nailing the colors and mocking it up perfectly? Also yes.

Trays are our "friends"! And.....shut up on the tape measure. I can't believe I'm old, really f'n old (73) and did not know tape measures came with ALL the little lines marked, in between the inch marks. Where the hell have I been, that I did not know this or didn't pay attention when it was announced somewhere in my life! I have to go to Lowe's next week, guess what I'll be checking out! I've always said, there should be a class in school that teaches basic "stuff" and how to read a tape measure should be part of that class. Cabinet door hardware - Excellent tip, really appreciate this one. Kitchen revamp in my future. These were all great tips & suggestions.

Yep! Hardcore carpenter’s tape measures have ‘em marked because those fellas can’t waste their time on that nonsense. Haha. And, yes, I agree. A life skills class is very important. I’ll never forget getting my first car, but not knowing how to fill up the gas tank because nobody covered that in driver’s ed. ❤️

Sooooo basically, you're a DIY & decor genius? I mean....we knew that, but now you're just rubbing it in our faces 😂. This was all such good information!! And shout out to the babe (or dude babe) with the witchy/pagan question. I have all of my "stuff" tucked away behind a curtain. I have so many style preferences and struggle so bad with incorporating them all without making my home look like a circus.

Thank you for this, you give really unique advice and finding refrences photos which are spot on..Regarding white melamin desks: I put a cheap recycled cork yoga matt cut to size on mine (basically an off brand flexispot) and waxed it for protection (with some wood wax which i already had on hand). Now im not virtually freezing looking into that white void and its basically a giant mousepad. Also, tested the waxed surface basically everyday with milkcoffee spills and it works totally fine.

@@LaughCryDIY hhh laugh cry diy german lab. I like it :-) But actually I ve been inspired by how you covered your friends flexispot in contact paper. Because I always wondered how to cover these rounded edges? I tried the heat method on another, less curvy, thiner desk and it barely worked. Still some wrinkles.And then I watched your office makeover where you just didnt! You just covered the top and not the edges! And that opened up a world of possibilites!

Right on, sister, fight the system! 👏👏👏 Be a rebel who knows how to use power tools. 🔌🧰 You’re so right about a capitalist culture discouraging people from doing things for themselves! I think part of the fear you mentioned comes from the idea that everyone will be able to tell that you DIYd whatever it is, and advertising has taught us that anything DIYd will be - excellent phrase, thank you - janky as hell, and friends, family, random neighbours, passersby in the street, will all laugh at you because you couldn’t afford to buy a ‘good’ one. This is not true. With just a little skill, you can often make the thing better and more suited to your particular needs than you can buy in a store. That being said, call the pros for plumbing and electrical! And gas fitting! 😁
@LaughCryDIY
@LaughCryDIY 21 күн бұрын
100% to all this (especially plumbing and electrical-I would not mess around). It is also funny how DIY is looked down upon UNLESS the product is “handmade” and priced above average. So, like, only acceptable if it’s expensive?! I read a critique of the idealization of the nuclear family that pointed out that breaking homes up into 4-person units means that every single home on the block needs to buy their own dinner table, lawn mower, etc. No more sharing or community-based activities (like dining). All perfect opportunities to market items made with post-war surplus materials. Anyway, I think of that every time I see an expensive dining table. Lol.
@tngirlz4622
@tngirlz4622 21 күн бұрын
@@LaughCryDIY That is fascinating! Canada definitely followed suit with the idealization of the nuclear family. I don’t know about other countries around the globe. Certainly Eastern European countries had multi-generational households as late as the 1980’s. Really interesting to see it from the perspective of more households means more consumer goods sold!
