I got a pig about two weeks ago she was six weeks old when I got her, I clearly didn’t do the proper research before getting her, the owner said she was a potbelly pig that only gets to 60 pounds, is there even a type of potbelly pig that only gets to that size?
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
It's a tricky question... it isn't impossible, assuming she isn't a pure potbelly. Full potbellies tend to be closer to 200lbs ish. But, if she's mixed with a smaller breed (juliana etc) then she may stay just under 100ish and still be perfectly healthy! Just keep in mind they don't stop growing until they're 5years old - though the majority of growth is in the first couple of years.

Hi, Just saw you are from Ga! I was in Dallas, Ga but moved up to Blue Ridge!! I had told you that my pig seemed very sick but couldn't find a vet to come out to see her. Well she started moving around more and seems to be getting back to normal. However. I think she was very constipated because I followed her yesterday where she always goes to the bathroom and she struggled for a long time. What can I give her to clean her out? I do feed her pellets but also fresh veggies, I do throw in some bran flakes at times and some fruit sparingly. Currently she has spinach, squash, romaine lettuce, green beans, etc. She's never had this issue before so what do you suggest? I was going to try some apple juice or natural applesauce, no sugar added, but wasn't sure that would work. Can pigs have any over the counter human meds? Next, a wild orphan baby followed her home from the woods and I've adopted him too. She however does NOT like him. Runs him off, has attacked him a couple of times if he is to close to her, etc. I've had to stop her from going over to eat his food when I feed them. She knows what NO means but once I tell her no to stop her from going over to him for his food, man she growls at me the moment I try to love on her some more. She's turned her head at me a few times. Any way to get her to accept him? He wants to be with her. Being dumped in the woods before, I would think she'd like the company. Suggestions?

Do you have any tips for our pig she’s about 10 weeks old we want to give her a heat pad but she always tries to chew the wire for it even if she’s been outside all day and playing and kept busy and happy. Thank you x
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 3 жыл бұрын
The heating pad should be wrapped in a blanket. If you have her in a pen area for sleeping put it so that the electrical cord is outside the pen. You could try putting other toys in her area to play and chew on. Also an electric blanket instead...with the cord outside her pen. If she's not in a pen maybe covering the cord with a rug or wrapping it in a towel and taping it. Just throwing some possible solutions out there. Hopefully one of them will work. Good luck!

Ok, I have a serious question here lol. I have an outdoor area for my my pigs. Their shelter is like an 8x8 area on a concrete slab. And one of my pigs will not stop going potty inside of this shelter! I clean it up, bleach it scrub it and try to block the area with things (it happens to conveniently be the entry way for me so theres only so much blocking I can do...) but she still will go potty in this area! It's very frustrating! Why wont she go outside like the other pig! It's been nice out up here in ohio so it's not like it's because its cold! My only other option I feel like is somehow cutting the room in half... but I like that they have such a large inside area because it seems to keep their hooves trimmed. Is there some sort of deterrent that I can put down in this area? Thank you for any suggestions you may have
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of the time I will completely block off the area in question until the pig has started forming a habit of going in the appropriate place. If that is not a great option then I'll clean it, and start giving their meals in the space! They do not want to potty where they eat!

I'm changing from Mazuri to Sharp's. I dislike the mass produced food and the eye discharge and rust. I feed lots of bird food. The 14 pound bag of no waste seeds and dried fruit. She loves that. I feed her hemp hearts and chia seeds and Bob's Red Mill Organic Oats. Lots and lots of veggies! Gerber Puffs, Cheerios, Shredded wheat biscuits. I add in some Gerber stage 1 meat and stage two veggies and fruit. Coconut water. Coconut chips. My baby won't eat fresh bananas, carrots and certain squash. If I puree them she'll eat them, but not cut up pieces! Lol Tomatoes she loves! Watermelon, grapes, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. She is very food oriented. Some cereal or kibble in my pocket helps with her attention. She pees on the puppy pads and her litter box, but if I leave the dog crate doors open she'll go in and pee in my dog's beds! Ugh! She's a stinker! I love her very much. It's been about six weeks since I brought her home. I still can't pick her up without her screaming and panicking, but she trusts me enough to climb on me. She's pretty amazing. You and your videos have been a huge help! I sure appreciate the information you provide!

I just got my piglet, she’s 6 weeks own, and I was given her mini pig pellets, I was told to give it with water like mushy. She’s been eating it but I’m not sure how often should I be feeding her. I don’t want to under or over feed her. ALSO she sleep throughout the night does not make a peep, but through the day will be up for maybe an hour a or two then sleeps for three, wakes up, same thing. Is she sleeping to much??
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
Pigs are quite lazy...so that sleep schedule sounds about right! Just keep an eye on her belly. As piglets they should have a round belly, but you don't want it to be distended and horribly stretched out after a meal - that's an indication they've eaten more than they comfortably should.

hi! can you do a parrot Q&A i have 5 parrots, a amazon, conure, cockateil, and two budgies. and i have a few questions, what bird are you most bonded to? a you bounded with your macaws? do you recommend macaws as pets, and if yo could only keep one of your birds what one would yo choose, thank you so much, love ya vids!
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
Awesome bird flock :) I adore my macaws, of course, however they are very unpredictable. One minute they love me, the next they want to murder me, so it's very important to really get to know them and be able to identify their mood! They are magnificent to observe though, incredibly smart and entertaining. Of my current birds, I would say the one that is the most attached to me is Rosie, my umbrella cockatoo. I feel she'd suffer the most emotional trauma if she were to be separated from me at this point.

My pig is getting bigger and I can't keep her in the house. I'm worried about her in the winter I love her very much and I would like to know I anyone can tell me how to make her comfortable in the winter. We are in Michigan and it get cold. She is in a barn with hay and other animals can I do anything else
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
I like to offer lots of bedding materials...hay/shavings/old blankets. I always stay away from heat lamps though - despite a lot of people using them I have heard WAY too many horror stories about fires starting! They do make heating mats specifically for outdoor farm animals though that can safely be attached to a wall or ceiling of a dog house or small barn that might be worth looking into. I haven't used them myself but it is what I plan on getting if my future farm ends up being in a colder climate!

I've had my pig for a year now . I'm having a bit of trouble using pee pads inside for when I'm not home . He tends to rip his pee pads before even using them. He rips them and puts them underneath him while laying on his bed, as if I wont see them lol. He used to use them just fine. Hes gotten pretty good at holding it till I let him out . Yet sometimes he wont let me know he needs to go so he'll pee where I used to have the pee pads. So idk his deal I'm trying to work with him I just cant figure him out lol any advice

I actually just answered this same question for someone else before reading your comment - it's a very common question! I always have to use the potty pad holders (amazon). They lock the pad down and discourage the pig from turning it into bedding! I also suggest making sure there some toys etc... in case it's a bit of boredom!

If you haven't checked out some of my other videos, I have a lot of suggestions for destructive/bored pigs! There are lots of toys and interactive things to keep them occupied. They are so smart they will definitely get destructive to entertain themselves. Rooting mats, ball pits, rooting boxes, and the interactive treat toys are great ideas!

They can be too big, but not too old. None of them enjoy it at first, it's too scary for animal that is generally prey. But, working with them can definitely change that - I have some that BEG to be held now.

I would think it would matter more on how much they weigh and how much weight their people can safely pick up. LIke if you're a body builder and can lift a hundred pounds then you can probably pick up your pig if its 100pounds or less. But some mini pigs are still around three hundred pounds and at that weight, I don't think many humans can lift them without help. Multiple people, forklift, or enticing pig into pen/crate/trailer, or drugging pig to sedate for vet care/emergency moving the animal?
