Been watching a few of your videos since I was thinking of going to Kauai with friends, but I must say for a person that lives on a tropical island you dont seem like you get much sun lol. You should be like really tanned. It would seem like you are indoors most of the day ?

@@luisromanlegionaire 😂 I guess I do look pretty pale lately. I tan very easily, but I have been traveling for a few months and all the places have been places that have not been sunshine countries or beach countries. I've now been in Portugal for a couple of months and it's been cooler and not beach weather. I'm naturally extremely white thanks to my mother. I don't have my father's darker skin. But, I'm a nature lover and love being outdoors, I guess I've just been more bundled up - hence the lack of a tan

Thanks for your tips! I did try to get tix for the parking and woke up at 3 am California time to get on the website but the traffic on the website created a glitch. Oh well, glad the shuttle service will help the people of Hawaii. Thanks for sharing!

I missed that part of north shore last trip in 2019. I’m looking forward seeing that side of island next summer.

How exciting! You'll absolutely love it! I've been lucky enough to travel quite a bit and I've done many hikes and this hike still is my favorite! It's magical ❤️

Thanks for the tips...got a 430 to sunset park and entry pass...looks like that pass gives you the least mount of time at the park. My question is how long is the hike from the trail head to Hanakapiai beach and back on average? Looks like we may only have 2.5 hours. Thanks

Do you know about the federal Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) as it pertains to Haena State Park? The LWCF is buried in the Haena State Park Master Plan and it could have some dramatic implications at Haena because the acquisition of the park was done with a large LWCF grant. I would appreciate your opinion as a resident on this situation as I very much appreciated all of your past videos about Kauai. I have asked DLNR about LWCF rules but they have not responded with any explanation of them as yet. Best regards, Michael

We took a drive out there a few months ago and I don't know if the shuttle driver for the overflow parking was having a bad day or what - but coming back from the end of the road towards Hanalei, I was trying to observe the local speed limits as well as watching out for all the pedestrians, and the shuttle driver was riding my ass and honking at me - at every one lane bridge, he was aggressively honking at me - again I'm only trying to be courteous to the oncoming cars . I finally found a spot to pull over and he flew past me at around 35-40 mph... Anyway - lots of good info in your video - thanks !

Wow?! Really?! Usually the shuttles and buses are really good about the speed limits. Some locals can definitely speed sometimes out of frustration, but I'm surprised by your story. Sorry that happened. Anyway - glad you enjoyed my video and thanks for watching!

@@YourHostJ I'm sure its a frustrating job driving that route over and over with lots of tourists who don't know where they're going or what to do at the bridges. I'll chalk it up to a bad day and send him some aloha !

I remember reading all of this when they implemented it and was so confused, you did a really great job going over the options. Question on the shuttle, I imagine the last couple of shuttles of the day can get busy, can that be a problem?
@YourHostJ
@YourHostJ 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Raymond! Nice to hear from you! Great question! Actually - since they limit the amount of people that can arrive by shuttle daily and most people leave much earlier than the last shuttle (5:45pm) it doesn't get too crowded. Ever since they implemented this reservation policy back in 2019 - it's made a huge difference. It was madness before and always, always overcrowded. This mellows things out. Again - I've never heard of it getting too busy while waiting for a shuttle. If anything - you may miss one and have to wait just for the next. Thanks for watching ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm looking to hike the Kalalau Trail there and back (44 miles total). I will not have a car at all. After watching your video I'm curious, if I need to get a ride to (arrive) and from (leaving) to the park and ride to grab the shuttle, is there cell service there? I wasn't sure from your video as you said there's no service in the park. Is the park and ride considered the park or is there cell service there? I'd need to book an Uber, or local ride per your suggestion. But I'd need to call someone once at the park and ride. Is that possible? Thanks a ton. GREAT video.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out! I'd definitely try to have something planned or you may have to walk past the entrance of the park to get any service - if not further. The park and ride TO the park has cell service for most people because it's further out - but AT the park - again - you'll have to walk probably closer to the entrance of the park. Obviously this video is over a year old - so maybe signals have gotten better since then - but I just looked at the official website and it still says no cell service. Just don't want to give you the wrong information and I definitely want to share info that will be safe rather than sorry. I think your best bet is taking the shuttle in because you can always ride standby on the way out and they come every 20 min or so and that will probably be faster than walking looking for signal and waiting for a ride. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching and I hope you love the hike - it's my favorite ❤️❤️❤️❤️

If we want to drive to the end of the road and not stop at the parks, is this possible to do without buying permits or using the shuttle? Love your video,l very helpful.

I just got reservations for my daughter and I. The reservation information auto filled. I did not notice it has me listed as both the adult and the child. Do you know if they will still let us in? Thanks for you help.
@YourHostJ
@YourHostJ Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for reaching out! I'd definitely shoot them over an email and explain what happened. I assume your child doesn't have an ID so maybe it's not a big deal since the name is supposed to match the ID - but definitely email them because they are very strict about entering the park. You can email them at info@gohaena.com - they are very good at responding quickly. Hope that helps and I hope you and your daughter enjoy the island and park ❤️

Is there a secret to getting the parking permit? We were up ready to go when it opened and the page froze for about 2 minutes until everything was full. We tried 2 nights in a row (which is 4 am for us).

Is the website as good as most other government websites? Sounds like we'll be mostly at the resort in September, and that Kauai is becoming not worth the money or the hassle. The lack of cell service is literally putting people in danger. "The fees are helping with community projects"... that's adorable.
