Mice without bones: basically adorable squishy stress balls with ears. :D I love that you mentioned neutering males as a suggestion! Not all vets will do that procedure/are comfortable, and one definitely needs an exotics specialist for it (unless adopting a neutered baby from the shelter). That said, I've had I think six? Successfully neutered boys. Some of them came to me that way, some were performed by my amazing vet care team, but I can tell you two things: 1) The little boys LOVE and thrive when they're able to live with girls 2) The colony dynamics change SO much. It's fascinating. Females are social and usually able to get along with whomever, but when you add that little boy in there, it's like their lives feel complete.

I have a male mouse and he lives alone. I got him from a breeder, and from day one he’s been rather antisocial. He prefers to do things on his own in his own way. He’s not overjoyed to get any kind of attention unless it comes with a reward. So, I’d say that their (male mice’s) level of loneliness depends on their personality.

Sometimes trapping and killing mice are necessary (especially if they are an invasive species). That’s why I personally don’t mind Shawn Woods’s videos. He even has some mice and rats as pets! I don’t like his mouse/rat traps that involve drowning them, but in many videos, he lets the native species of mice go and he humanely dispatches ones that are invasive in a CO2 chamber. They also never go to waste because he feeds them to wild animals.

Question! You have a lot of experience caring for both mice and rats, so what is your "preference" of the two, if you have one? Care differences aside, is there one you like better for any reasons? I mostly have experience caring for rats (all lovely!), but I've only cared for one group of mice. I had previously been afraid to care for mice specifically due to their small size; I found rats are a much better match for me since they are larger and more 'cuddly', but I have always been open to getting more into mice if given a good opportunity.

Hi Emme! I’m in need of your advice! Since the beginning, Twinkie has been my alpha mouse. I’ve gotten Twinkie and daisy at the same time. I’ve since introduce (separately) Little Foot followed by Bambi. Twinkie picked on these girls a lot, I’m assuming to establish her dominance. Since I’ve now introduced Cricket and Dixie (together) Twinkie and Daisy had their share of picking on the new guys. But now, Little Foot is picking on everyone except Twinkie! She seems to be chasing them and the other squeak as she approaches. I’m not really sure what to do because she’s even going after Daisy who was there before her. Is there anything I can do to get Little Foot to relax? They all sleep together but when they are awake, Little Foot is reeking havoc!

My mom has told me that basically the only reason against me owning mice is the fact that she doesn’t like them, as in the germy gross wild animal kind, and yeah, but how can that even apply to domestic mice? It’s not like I just can’t get another pet, she has said yes to another leopard gecko in the future, and I have guinea pigs and a hamster and my sister has a hamster, and we have owned gerbils. But for some reason mice just cross a limit? Idk it’s pretty strange, I would understand if she had a valid reason, but I always am the one who cares for my animals, she never has to do anything unless it’s just feed the Guinea pigs while I’m not home or something.
