My husband and I dated for 8 years before getting married. And much to our families disappointment, we eloped. We knew much earlier in our relationship that we loved each other and couldn't imagine being with anyone else, but it took 8 years for both of us to finish school, find job security, and get into a mindset where we both felt comfortable with taking the next step. It had nothing to do with commitment issues (like some may people allude to). It had everything to do with both of us feeling like we were bringing our best into our new lives with one another. And that made waiting worth it. And anyone who says otherwise, their opinion doesn't matter because it's YOUR marriage! And we worked together, side-by-side, day-in-day-out, during COVID-19, for years and we didn't want to kill each other so then I knew that he was a keeper lol

I think even as an introverted person it's important to just go to events and things if you want to meet people. I think we think that it has to be done in a bar setting or something like that, but you'd be surprised how many people you can find at craft nights or markets or bookclubs. I wouldn't go with the intention of oh i'm absolutely going to find someone to date here, but with just keeping yourself open to other human connection. Say yes more when people invite you to things too, compliment people more, ask questions about people more-even if you don't end up dating one of those people, you'll come out of those interactions with a friend most likely and knowing you tried and you'll feel less lonely

i think people who are making these types of comments about your engagement just don't know you and pili at all (obviously) but they are solely basing it on other relationships. yes, a lot of men do string women along for years with no intention of commitment but in those situations there is no communication or understanding from both parties. it's been very clear that you both love and respect each other and there is nothing wrong with waiting until you are ready on all fronts and didn't just rush into something because of societal timelines. the reason so many marriages end is because one or both people were just not ready either emotionally, financially or otherwise. regardless, CONGRATGULATIONS and i'm sure it is super exciting to be ready for the next stage in your relationship. 💕

My partner and I got together at 22/23 and we’ve been together 5 years.
