As someone who has recently retired from a D1 sport, I understand your pain around the word "quit". It is so much more deep than people will ever know.
@nylotus6 ай бұрын
I see it as quitting if you get a 4-year scholarship or you commit to 4 years and throw in the towel 1 year before quitting. Many of us D1 athletes feel that way. I do see it as quitting and letting your team down however I understand the mental strain. But if the mental issues were there before playing one should've have agreed to the play.

Mary, thank you for opening up about your relationship with food. As someone who also has been through this I know it's not easy. It takes strength to talk about it on the internet with everyone's opinions. God is using you to help others. Thank you 💗

I know you’ve probably heard that many times and already know that, but it’s just a good thing to hear every once in a while. All of your friends, family members, fans, past coaches, and any and every person on this platform and others, are so proud of you!! We are all here for you through your journey and I can’t wait to see where God takes you next! You are bound for so so so so much! I know you’re going to go so far!!! I wish you best! May God bless you with all the love, support, and courage you deserve!

Mary! :) I am one of those annoying people on insta that was bugging you to know when you’d be coming back to KZbin and I’m so glad to see you back. I echo the words of many before me here in saying that I am so proud of you and the choices you have so thoughtfully made. I am also one of your older followers, a runner, and have recovered from an eating disorder. I assure you, there is light at the end of the tunnel :). Looking forward to more vids!

You are an inspiration. Go girl! I’m in my 30s now & am just now healing from an ED. I can promise you anything is possible with a strong faith in God. I also had to incorporate more than just vegan foods into my diet bc the strict control over what I was eating was definitely playing a role. What I realized most was trying to strictly control my diet was really me just trying to find order in the chaos that was around me. Learning to lean on God & trust in his plans truly allowed me to let go of the need for control. So I think you’re well on your way. Congrats on everything you’ve accomplished at such a young age. You SHOULD be proud! ✌🏼🙏🏼🤍

College runners also have so so many issues with eating disorders. I was surrounded by them and decided to be done with it as well my junior year. I did go back my senior year and I felt much better and today, 15+ years later life, I feel free of all of these harmful thoughts. You can absolutely get to a place where you are happy and healthy. Just wanted to share as an "older person" :) - that things will get better!

You are not alone in your struggles. I have had a bad relationship with food since I was in high school. I struggled all through college, got better for a while, but the past couple years, it's been difficult. I have had friends and coworkers doing interventions, and I went to therapy. However, apparently the therapist said my issues were beyond her expertise, and referred me to a psychiatrist with a nutritionist on staff. They have a waiting list, so I haven't continued therapy. I applaud you for knowing your struggles and limits, and getting the help that you need.

I did gymnastics as a kid and then cheered for 8 years through middle school, high school, and two years of college. I struggled with very similar issues, disordered eating habits, poor body image, and anxiety surrounding anything that had to do with cheer. I retired my sophomore year and it was a great decision for me! My mental health improved so much. I still remained friends with all my teammates and lived with them my last two years of college, and have now even been in a few of their weddings. So happy for you for recognizing your struggles and doing what is best for you! This is the beginning of an amazing chapter and wishing you the best throughout this whole journey! You got it!

My girlfriend was a D1 cross country runner, and it took a similar toll on her physical and mental health. Ultimately she had to leave the team her senior year and take a long break after graduation. She's a few years post-grad now and has been able to redefine her relationship with running in a sustainable healthy way. She's eating freely, connecting with folks who have a healthy relationship with the sport, and she's falling back in love with it! Wishing you a wonderful, much needed, break!

That in itself has been so good for my own mental well being. I wish you only the best that life has to offer. Continue reaching for the stars beautiful. God has amazing things planned for your life. Trying not to be sad about you not cheering your Sr. year after doing all the years prior but trying to look at it as a shift in how you cheer, you are able to cheer now at any events you choose. Also your energy that you were putting in supporting the football or basketball teams you can put into supporting yourself working towards healthy mindset working on the journey with ED.
