In the simulation of natural convection heat transfer inside enclosure you should determine Ra number and make the simulation for various Ra number(for example 1e3, 1e4, 1e5, 1e6) to study Ra effect on stream function and isotherms contour also we are more interested in stream function contour which can be obtained from fluent. you can see fluent tutorial, there is a good tutorial in natural convection in a square cavity however you are complete good work thank you very much Best Winshes

Rayleigh no=Gr x Pr, and Gr is inversely proportional to mean Temperature (as beta=1/mean temperature,so by varying the surface and ambient temperature you can vary the Rayleigh No. You can also change the characteristic length, and material properties to get the result for different Rayleigh no. For streamlines: you can go to cfd post processing(Results)->Streamlines option is there in the tool bar ->start from->symmetry -apply, you can get streamlines like this if you want to increase the streamlines then increase "# of points".

If you can make a video on the setup creation as there are lot of things like turbulence models, methods etc which one can't understand where to use which model or method. So please if you can a tutorial on this, thanks.

In the definition of material density, it is prefer to choose Boussenisq instead of incompressibe ideal gas. when you do that, you should determine thermal expansivity (Beta) its units is (Kelvin^-1)
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 7 жыл бұрын
you can get the formation of flow pattern by using "incompressible ideal gas" option as density of air. If you are chosing "Boussenisq" you wil only get a heat conduction effect in the fluid domain, without the convection effect. As boussenisq is applicable to problems involving higher density variations.

Well done with the tutorial. However, I want to quote the fluent manual, 'This approximation is accurate as long as changes in actual density are small; specifically, the Boussinesq approximation is valid when beta*deltaT

Sir what will be the steps to follow to get criticat rayleigh number ...... Which version of ansys you are using.... I followed your method but i am not getting same result(i am using ansys 20 student versiong
@AnsysTutor

ANSYS version does not affect the result, check the geometry & units that you have used.

hello this is naturel convection so what about the application of boussinesq number in operation condition
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 2 жыл бұрын
Boussinesq model is old and less accurate model, so mostly we use the incompressible ideal gas density.

sir, why take density as incomparable ideal fluid? hear air is a working fluid, and its compressble fluid then how sir.. pleas help
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 5 жыл бұрын
By selecting Air density as incompressible idea gas or bousseniq, you can observe the variation of density of air due to change in temperature, (which is most important for natural convection phenomenna) , Boussenisq approximation is not used now a days as it neglects some of the terms for less computational time requirement, Hence Incompressible Ideal gas model is suggested . if you select the constant density you will not able to get that.

Hi sir, how to applied the masse transfer in fluent
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 4 жыл бұрын
You need to enable the boiling / condensation model for this.

Hello sir, Can you tell how to do natural convection with mass transfer too?
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 7 жыл бұрын
For that you have to enable multiphase model. There would be an option for mass transfer in phase interaction menu.

isn't it necessary to get the solution to converge ?
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 5 жыл бұрын
No, its not necessary , sometimes the iteration graph remains straight horizontally. only you need to check the variation of the iteration graph , if the variation is not much then your solution is good.

I have another concern. How to plot heatlines (Like streamlines) in fluent during natural convection. It will be greatly thankful to you.
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 7 жыл бұрын
There is no heatlines, you can show the variations of tempereature by vectors or contours.

Thanks for the quick reply sir. So you mean we can not heatlines in Fluent. Right? Actually read some research articles in which the author have drawn Isotherms and heatlines both.

You can use softwares like tecplot to draw isotherm lines. There is no option in fluent for that.

I'd like to follow this tutorial but Fluent always fails to launch when I click it. Anybody know why that might happen/how I could fix it?
@AnsysTutor
@AnsysTutor 7 жыл бұрын
It might be the antivirus program stoping the fluent program , if this is not the case then check for software license error.
