I hope you film moving that one colony. It's always oddly satisfying watching them move all the young.

Blake I plan to attempt to catch that on video. Catching a movie on video takes a lot of time and a little luck as well. They have to move soon!

I also like to use fruit flies for my ants. They work well especially for small colonies. I put a few into their test tube and it forces them to deal with the flies and feed on them as opposed to leaving a carcass in the outworld and waiting for god knows when for a forager to wander into it.
@TheXZero387 жыл бұрын
I did the open test tube thing with my Pogonomymex species but i made a plug for the test tube from a cotton ball and a maybe half inch long piece of a drinking straw. It has been working really well so far.

TarheelAnts I need your help. Okay in the casita 2017 above the water towers there are what looks like tunnels leading up above them behind the nest. I moved out a myrmica colony. And moved in a campo. Then suddenly the myrmica started coming out of the tunnels that are above the water towers. Are they tunnels. What are they????? Please help

Do you know what material TarheelAnts uses for its formicariums?
@nhuanhnguyen50115 жыл бұрын
I live in Australia. I care for an iridomyrmex bicknelli colony ( rainbow ants) Do you breed or purchase fruit flies because there is an abundance of them.

We've been wondering where to get P. Imparis. It reached 70+ 2 days ago, but we didn't see a single elate. We're not sure why. Do you know what conditions they like, if it's not just 70*?

TarheelAnts I was planning on keeping a Solenopsis molesta colony, and I was wondering whether you would recommend a mini hearth, atom, or inception chamber formicarium for a pair of queens. Thanks!
@nostoneunturnedherping93997 жыл бұрын
Or possibly a Solenopsis invicta colony, but I'm afraid that it will grow too big too fast, what do you think? BTW I am new to ant keeping.
@bigmoose76 жыл бұрын
i have 2 inception chambers , a mini heath and an atom...i think for the founding stage you will get the best value from the atom but the highest quality one is probably the inception chamber...my fav is mine hearth though lol cus it looks cool.

What would be the best species size option to choose for pheidole. I’m struggling to pick between small and tiny, I don’t what it to be too small as I would like to be able to reuse the formicarium for slightly larger ants if needed when they move out. What would be the best option?
@TarheelantsUSA6 жыл бұрын
The Great I would recommend small size tunnels. There are still tiny areas for tiny ants and also some medium sized areas as well. Small is a good way to accommodate a range of smaller Ants.

Really enjoy your videos and your formicariums, just wish your open worlds were bigger. I think your site needs more detailed descriptions for your products, Was helping my girlfriend purchase a product from you several days ago, both of us had problems understanding what we were getting with some of your products and also not knowing what the product would look like design wise. Aside from that, we are looking forward to receiving your product, No idea how Ants Canada is doing soo much better then you, they charge twice as much and has far less options, your prices are much more reasonable.

Hey I need help I have a 12 worker camponotus cruentantus colony what nest would you recommend? There quite large snts
@TarheelantsUSA6 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a Type I Fortress for them. They like a dryer nest typically which is why I recommend this nest.

Hey there, I'm from North Carolina and looking for tips on how to catch the native species. I know this is an old video, but I'm hoping someone local will reply and be able to give me some much needed information. My dream species is Prenolepis imparis, but I'm open to any non-aggressive species (no fire ants please!)
