Antawn Jamison: OVER 20,000 CAREER POINTS! But should he make the HALL OF FAME?? | FPP

He’s one of the least talked about great scorers of the 21st century and especially of the 2000s NBA, and at the time of writing this, he is one of two hall of fame eligible players (the other is Tom Chambers) with at least 20,000 Career points who has not been voted in. It’s up for debate whether you think he should be, as aside from being a versatile, he didn’t nearly the same impact on the defensive end, and also doesn’t really have any team success to help his case. But Antawn Jamison was one of the most consistent scorers in the league for nearly a decade and a half across the 2000s and 2010s, with his ability to shoot and stretch floor, yet also work down low and get hustle points and putbacks. He was star at the University of North Carolina under Dean Smith and playing alongside future NBAers like Vince Carter, Shammond Williams, and Jeff McInnis. Upon winning National College Player of the Year, he would enter the 1998 NBA draft where he would be a top 5 pick of the Toronto Raptors, but quickly traded to Golden State for his UNC teammate in Vince Carter. He spent his first 5 years putting up big number on some terrible Golden State Warriors teams, eventually playing with guy like Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson and Larry Hughes. He would then spend an efficient year with the Dallas Mavericks alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash and Michael Finley where he would win the 2004 Sixth Man of the Year award. After this he would get traded to Washington where he would spend his best years, forming a trio with Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler, as well as starting a one sided playoff rivalry with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but even though he was making the playoffs, his team never went far and then Arenas and Butler broke down. After this Jamison would spend some time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, but although he had been durable and reliable his entire career, by this time he was in his mid 30s and slowing down. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that over a 16 year career, he would average double figures in 13 of those seasons, and wherever he went, you knew you were getting buckets.

Yeah I know how you feel bro as a Sixers fan I could never get over the Sixers drafting Larry Hughes over Paul Pierce and Dirk. We all wanted Pierce but there actually was some buzz for Dirk as he was viewed as a bigger and better version of Keith Van Horn who could grow into a C which would pair perfect with AI. But at least you guys got to see Larry Hughes breakout when we traded him there.

Dunleavy Jr. was an arrogant prick. Wouldn't bother me a bit it he doesn't do a vid on him...and this is coming from a Duke fan, where he played on one of the best college teams of all time. I went to Duke bball camp before my Junior and Senior year. All the players and coaches were there the whole week. Even Battier flew in to meet us. ALL of the players and coaches , even Battiier, signed autographs for the campers. Dunleavy was the only one that would t. All their players hung out and talked with us all week. Walked around like he was better than everyone, and wouldn't speak. Spoiled rich kid who's dad was a player and then coach in the league. Sorry for the rant, just thought I would explain what type of guy he is

Great breakdown and video. It was something about his style of play that was low-key irritating but he definitely had a stellar career longevity wise and a great touch from mid to 3 point range spotting. It was either his backpack jumper form (Draymondish) where he was looking like power forward version of Glen Rice. Jameson just never was a threatening defensive presence but he always stayed active on the boards inspite of his gimpy knees or lack of athleticism.

Yeah, but the thing is if your shot isn’t falling and you aren’t elite at something else, be it rebounding, passing or defense - you become a liability. That’s why most of the great one-way players who could score a lot never really won anything. I’m talking about guys like King, Gervin, English, Wilkins, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and even Tracy McGrady, who was capable of being a playmaker at times.

Jamison was never the best scorer in the league at his position and he was just a bad defender. The guy couldn't guard anyone. There are also PLENTY of players that scored at a high level and defended at a high level at the same time in his era. KG was scoring more than Jamison in a slower offense and guarded like his life depended on it.
