I found a FiveStar HDTv/VHF/UHF antenna in my attic, time for an experiment. Note- This setup is for receiving only. Transmitting with this could ruin your radio.

No, probably won’t fry the Baofeng. An antenna designed for television UHF and VHF aren’t far away from the 2 meter and 70cm frequencies of amateur radio. The horizontal orientation is wrong but the other guy could just hold his radio sideways.

Hey Iron Head. I'm still learning how to use the Baofeng uv-5r. Nice set up😊😊

@@nicksrc908 hey thanks. Eh that setup was a quick experiment out of curiosity, it wouldn't be good for transmitting, it will fry the boafeng, but receiving, I can give it a plus, it picked up the NOAA repeater in the northwest part of my county, which I couldn't with the whip antenna that comes with it, and the closest NOAA repeater came in clearer lol. I didn't have the proper coax, so I used RG6, not good for our radios but I made it work. RG68 coax is what is supposed to be used but it's hard to source locally aside from CB antennas.
