Also I don't know if you know about fiberglass tubing used in High Power rocketry. But there is 29mm tubing that weighs 1.62oz per foot. And you can get couplers for them too. You order them to the length you want. So 3..4ft and 1 5ft would make a 17ft beam. So just over 1.5 lbs. Just a thought.

@K6ARK

Yeah, I actually find it easier and quicker to assemble on the ground. On the ground, I can screw on two elements at once. It's harder to do that with it off the ground because the elements are a bit long and tricky to keep perfectly aligned with one hand on the threaded end.

I wonder if this approach could be used for a compact when folded 10m beam. I suspect that each element would end up needing a string to help support it sort of like what you use on the boom to keep then from bending down to much. (Or maybe use carbon fiber arrow shafts and wire for the elements?)
@K6ARK
@K6ARK 2 жыл бұрын
I have experimented with elements long enough for 10m. I think the main thing would be a reinforced attach point. The single 8-32 screw at the boom end is being tasked pretty hard with elements that long. But with a little ingenuity, I'm certain you could get it to work. Of you do, please share!

@@K6ARK Going to try and build the 2m/70cm antenna you showed a while ago first, but then i might work on figuring out a 10m one. Its definitely something i am interested in. @@K6ARK Just had an idea on how to make the centers of the elements stronger for a 10m one. Maybe thread the outside of the arrow shaft and screw it into a coupler nut? I plan on doing some testing with the cut-off from making the 2m/70cm one to see if its feasible.

How is the Yagi matched? Please do a video just on this! Thanks! K4RJJ
@K6ARK
@K6ARK 3 жыл бұрын
The yagi is matched using two parallel sections of 75 ohm coax to make a 35 ohm segment, 1/4 wavelength long on 6m. It is wound about 6 times through a -43 mix toroid at the feed point end as a common mode choke.
@W4TRI
@W4TRI 3 жыл бұрын
@@K6ARK that's the part I was unclear about two parallel sections of coax? Are the shield and center tied together on each?
@K6ARK
@K6ARK 3 жыл бұрын
@@W4TRI yes, center conductors connect at each end, and ground connected at each end to make a 35 ohm cable. Note that this also affects the velocity factor so you have to sort that out as well. on5au.be/content/a10/trans/spcoax.html
