Anthem AVM70 3 Years Later...

Upgraded from a SR8015 to an Arcam AV40 open box. I then upgraded the HDMI board to 2.1. Total cost about the price of a Denon X3800. There’s been a lot of Arcam deals out there. Buying new MSRP, hard to beat the price of Anthem, but I recommend working with your dealers for the best price no matter what brand or model.

I just got the avm90 and it works flawlessly 10times better then the denon x8500h so happy i switch once you learn the calibration you really realize how its worth the upgrade, great video my friend

Hi there! Do you mind telling us whether you were using 8500h as a processor exclusively and comparing more like for like to the avm90? I am currently using marantz 8805 which is supposedly better than Denon 8500h and wonder if it's worth switching to anthem processors? (Note I upgraded from 4700h as processor to 8805 and that was also a noticeable improvement in 5.2.5 setup)

I used to use a marantz processor before the anthem. The 7706. And yes marantz is better in my opinion but it doesn't compete with anthem. Also my opinion lol

@@amb86 i was at first using it as a reciever, then my subwoofers started popping,manufacturers of the subwoofers said ir was the denon they have problems sending a clipped signal after 4yrs a finally save enough to buy the avm90 Christmas special 6200 dollars im over the road now so i still haven't check if the subs are still popping until i get back nx week,but the denonx8500h was disconnecting my rca signal after i started using it as a processor it made no difference in the popping of subs i try everything except put it in default, i call denon manufacturers and the lady on the line took my complaints pass on an never received a call back...happy with the avm90,try it if not send it back...no lost,but spec of tech had the marantz and switched to the 70 and was blown away now he got the 90...check his video,good luck

Excellent and right on cue. I know they had loads of bugs when first released but I never forgot wanting one. This is the only 2024 review of the avm70 on YT.

Just got one in Dec, was part of their 15% off seasonal promotion but was also an additional 25% off for a factory refurbished unit so ~2500 USD. I haven't had a chance to install it yet.

I've been using AVM 70...for 2 years,paired with XPA 3..XPA 6... Emotiva Gen 3 amps...SVS Ultra speakers...PB 16 sub....really awesome. ❤❤

Great video. I totally agree they should take care of their customer's that purchased the earlier model. I'm a big Marantz fan and have been looking into upgrading and going separates. The new Marantz amp10 is out of my range. I thought about this processor before, so this video was helpful. I guess I need to keep saving money and be patient. 😆

Would love to hear the differences between the anthem and my Denon. Tried a lot of systems and for the esoteric nature of some of these higher end units it would have to be more than a nominal difference for me. Not sure where your located but feel free to stop by if you’re ever in SD. 😊

AVM70 here, new since okt 2023, no freezing. CEC cinnected to sony bravia is not providing sound all the time. I have to shut down and start up.

I really wish Anthem would roll out an update for an option for a FULL on screen display on your TV or projector. I like being able to see everything on my laptop, but often when watching a movie don't have my laptop on and be nice to see settings on the TV or projector. A feature I miss from the prior gen. Great vid btw Have had my AVM70 for aporx 18 months and love it!

Do you think the anthem av 70 is a huge upgrade over the Marantz av7706 when it comes to just gaming and movies ???? Currently have the Marantz av7706 and wondering if its worth the upgrade. I run a 7.2.4 setup. Klipsch reference premiere.

Had mine for just about the same time and i am still super impressed. But the Arc is not perfect , i always have to bump up the 2 sub levels . Not planning on an 8K board as a lot of content is still not out on 8K. CEC with TV HDMI is the only issue that's never worked for me .

I never had any freezing issues. I had both AVM70’s calibrated and turned off updates as I do not need them. The price tag is not $4,000.00 where I shop. ARC Genesis is the separation between most other processors. As you stated, if you have less quality speakers, buying the AVM70 would not provide the return on investment. Some users leave updates on and their units have problems for whatever reason. Maybe it was the beta version.

Hello, I’m also an early adopter of the anthem avm70 and I didn’t upgrade to the 8k either. I do agree with you on paying more to upgrade, not fair for the early adopters, the anthem avm 70 4K hdmi board doesn’t but out hdr10+, only the 8k version does it. Totally unfair.

@johnathantaylor3199 we have a living room setup. We run a Marantz Cinema 50 with a TCL QM8. Speakers are Polk XT series for the 5.2.4 setup with a pair of Starke Sound SW15 subwoofers. I'm excited because we're going to MWave next week, so I'll get to hear the new speakers from RBH, SVS, and some other brands as well. Hopefully, I'll know what speakers I want to upgrade to after Mwave.

Hi Kspace, I purchased my AVM70 the same time as you did. Have you ever considered the AVM90? I never did the upgrade but I impressed with I have now. I am strongly considering the AVM90 (improve DAC,2.1 hdmi) or just wait for the New editions of Anthem Flagship Processor. Endgame hopefully a Trinnov one day😉. Thanks for the 3 year review.

I have considered it because for me, the dac and the extra 2 subwoofers are really, really nice for me BUT I rather just hang on the avm70 until the next best thing comes out and do a true upgrade later down the road.

If you like LFE in your home theater, like 90% plus of people. Arc Genesis deos a better job for your subwoofer than Dirac. Dirac flatten the sub response, you have to go and increase it in your Dirac settings.

Let me ask you a honest question . I have a marantz sr 6013 basically ran as a pre pro I have 3 emotiva xpa gen 2 amps running a 7.4.4 with a mini HD. Klipsch rp 450c , rp 280 front, rp 600 m rears, rp 502 surrounds , four sa 500 atmos and 4 monolith thx subs . Is the avm 70 worth the upgrade !? I m on the fence . I love marantz they just work ,but hate audyssey.

Which output do you use on your anthem?(HDMI) I think that is maybe the problem that you're having.

@@Kpaceguy if it is the EARC output, try the other output. This solved all my problems. Even if I have EARC turned off it still is giving me problems as soon as I switched to the other output, it fixed all the problems.

I understand that anthem is a really good product, either their receivers or their preprocessors. I own one. What I want to see on some content or if I can personally do it is to go to someone's hometheater with a different receiver or processor setup and listen to a movie or music that I am or you are familiar with and then give an honest opinion whether there is a huge difference on the sound. Of course, it is not an apples to apples comparison. But this is something I want to see on a video content. The reason I want this is because there are some video creators that I am following as well that has an awesome hometheater setup but have a different brand of receivers/processors. Hope u kinda got what im trying to say about 😅
