There was another female boss named Pasquarella Spinelli. She was the boss of the Harlem Murder Stable Gang in the 1910s. Interestingly she was also Neapolitan and it was also a Camorra gang and not mafia. There has also been female bosses in the Camorra based in Naples Italy over the years including modern times. You see the Camorra has a different culture than the mafia. The Camorra origins were a prison gang that spilled out on the streets more like the the modern day “Mexico mafia”. Whereas the Sicilian mafia was created on the streets and was designed more as a quasi government in defiance to French / Spanish / northern Italy oppressors. Both became criminal organizations but different cultures all together…..Females would hold a higher role in Camorra gangs because they weren’t going in and out of prison like the men so they had more responsibility to the gang which would sometimes lead to leadership roles… in the early days the Mafioso in Sicily would not be in prison but rather would be in a local political position not in prison where he would haft to rely on his wife to run his affairs while he was locked up. Vito Genovese was from Naples and he took over the family from lucky Luciano who happened to be Sicilian but started out in a Calabrian gang or really the multi ethic 5 Points Gang. So when Cosa Nostra became a thing in the early 30s the Luciano Family which later became known as the Genovese family embraced most of of the non-Sicilian Italian gangs into their family compared to the Bonanno Lucchase and Colombo family for example which was dominated by Sicilians and throughout hung on to that mafia culture. The Gambino was in the middle… they very much operated like the Sicilian mafia but they also embraced Calabrians. I hope this clears it up!
@an.20.24Ай бұрын
In Italy, expecially in the camorra, there always have been lady bosses or underbosses. Rosetta Cutolo, Maria Licciardi, Pupetta Maresca ect. Also in the 'ndrangheta, there were women who were basically bosses of their family, like Maria Serraino.

Now that their presence has been diminished over the past 30 years, street gangs have taken over and now a lot of innocent people are affected.
