Sir Anthony Dowell is one of the most elegant and technically brilliant dancers I’ve ever seen. His technique is absolutely impeccable and he is a consummate actor. What a treasure he is. ❤

This was the finest production of "Swan Lake" ever, in my experience. The Royal Ballet should revive it for future generations to marvel at. No current productions in any of the major houses come anywhere near it.

What a privilege to be able to watch this historic footage of Anthony Dowell. I thought Nureyev's version of this solo could not be surpassed, but here is another breathtaking interpretation. Pure artistry... a joy to watch, again and again.

In answer to your version question, this is in fact Sir Frederick Ashton's version of Swan Lake. Yes, I agree it's one of the most lovely versions and have seen and had the pleasure to dance in.

He's telling the story with his gestures and facial expressions and his technique is otherworldly beautiful. Mesmerizing!

I loved this version of Swan Lake which I got to see in New York with Nureyev and Sir Anthony Dowell over the years. I really enjoy Sir Anthony in this role. His elegance and control in the first act solo and in the White act Pas de Deux was incredible.

When I was 10 I wrote a letter to Sir Dowell to express my admiration. From Tunisia. I didn't even know the exact adress. He kindly replied with 2 photos.

And, of course, the Royal Mail knew exactly where to deliver.👍🏼

Wonderful production...with its layers of history...the Leslie Hurry designs, (best Odile tutu ever!) the Nureyev first act solo and a truly dramatic Act IV --virtually all Ashton. Never bettered. Saw Dowell in this with Lesley Collier in 1980.

oops crap texting as usual. One of the top dancers of that era but because he wasnt flashy and more reserved he wasnt apreciated as much. He was the most lyrical dancer and when you watch him in Manon absolute Dogs B......s. to put in a non balletic term, LUV YA TONY,

It could be that Nureyev's solo was integrated into the Ashton Production!!

This looks like its Nuryev's version - interesting to compare the too men... I like Rudik's better, R's hip is more developed or something, and R's feet seem better... hard to say really, maybe Rudik was using his bones more?
@louiselins
@louiselins 7 жыл бұрын
Felix Casper It's not a fact of using more the bones. I'm sure they both used the full capacity of their bodies, all structures that are integrated in movement. But yes Nureyev pointed his feet more and the adagio was easier for him. I love his record with Fonteyn when he was beautiful and good. Although Dowell display such grace, so polished.
