To be fair, the voice caught him so off guard he probably wasn’t expecting to hear anything and didn’t register it very well. And then the cast he could’ve thought was a trick or prank. I think that’s why he initially was going for Ian, because he considered the whole slap was part of a goof

this is a prime example of why I don't really like Angela's persona on stage. She always tries to be extra, play outside the rules, and repeats the same jokes that work once. Even if she didn't make the joke herself beforehand. I bet she is a great person, but in a team, the chaos gremlin is just agonizing to watch. She's not a team player. She's a "I gotta prove myself to the kids watching that I am worthy of being here by being the most hype and extra person in the room" - and it just doesn't always work.
