Watching these interviews from the 1970's & the intellectual calibre of them, you see how much journalism has deteriorated on English television today.
@johnnycyborg91457 жыл бұрын
Also you have to make the interviewed comfortable, respect his craft, ask intelligent questions, and give time for a good and long interview. Now its fast and smart and so on, but REALLY superficial. Also whenever i see interviews from all kinds of persons from the 50-60-70-80-90´s you feel like youre REALLY watching somebody who is something. Who is magnificient at ones craft and profession. Sometimes you just want to listen and listen forever to somebody talking, knowing that person is one of a kind and such.

A lot of "stars" back then had lived quite hard lives before they became famous, & had spent years building up their careers before they attained public recognition in their 30's - 50's, compared to most actors now who are presented as "stars" in their 20's, who generally have had sheltered middle class lives of comfort, & haven't "lived" by comparison & had a chance to developed character. It's very noticeable that pre-1960 most of the film stars were in their late 30's-50's, but now generally they're in the 20's-early 30's. It's the "youth" thing that came in in the late 1950's-60's with pop music led by Elvis, & the film industry copied it in late 1980's, to its detriment.

FYI: Long True Story... This interview has to be the most revealing interview of Anthony Quinn's life... I was a very close friend of son Francisco Quinn. Francisco was a bicycle nut when we met in 1990 when I first started a bicycle component company named onZa. A year or two later he came with me a couple times to Taiwan to visit my component manufacturers. It was during these long flights that I came to know the good & dirty side of the Quinn family. He always told me how Anthony was really harsh and very punishing of all his children, which he related back to his Grand Father, being very tough and abusing with Anthoney. Funny after all these years I had no idea this interview existed and this interview exposed this very fact how all his children grew up in Anthoney shadow of child abuse. Sadly Francisco passed away about 8 years ago, and I was shocked the day I was told of his passing and grieved for many weeks. All I can tell you is he Hated Baseball & Loved Soccer. Oh, the stories he would tell me about his family would curl your toes. One day he came into my onZa office in Santa Monica just panicked saying we need to have lunch as he had chilling news about his father. So we had lunch at one of my favorite places just off the shore of Santa Monica... The first thing he says to me in my ear is, "My Dad Just Got His young GirlFriend Pregnant and when my mother finds out the SHIT IS GOING TO HIT THE FAN, and I don't know where to hide". Sure enough, it made the world news as his mother living in Italy at the time denounce Anthony. By force, Francisco had to go on the national news to defend his father. I can still remember Francisco wore a pinstriped suit during these interviews which really made me laugh out loud in front of the TV. Many in the bicycle community loved Francisco as his passion was always cycling and will always remember him as a compassionate man of courage and grace. With all my Love, Dan Sotelo

ZORBA THE GREEK. My father, Evangellos, was a stern disciplinarian yet bundled within a silk vail of sentimentality. On a warm, sunny afternoon, I took him to the cinema to see Anthony Quinn play “Zorba the Greek”. During the movie, he calmly asked me what village Antony Quinn's family was from in Greece. "No Pop..he's Mexican and Irish”...I said. Well quite upset hearing this and with an anger ready to swing an arm toward my face for disrespecting him, I persuaded my dad to keep calm and watch the entire movie. He did not appreciate the way ELLAS, the ancient historic name of his birthplace ( he refused to utter the word Greece..."It's ELLAS", he would demand" ) was depicted casting the poor populous of Crete in such a disrespectful manner….BUT….in that classic scene when Zorba, with sparkles in his eyes, hungrily looking at the sea ...started running impulsively toward it.... tearing off his clothes....”butt naked” ….diving into the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea….and !…….well my Dad burst out laughing like a wild, crazed Zorba. He was beside himself ! Why….you could see his tears rolling down his face...hearing that explosive laughter all the way outside in the parking lot. Later on, he admitted to me that he, as a youth,..."did the same Damn Thing ! " Memories
