Warren Buffett hasn't invested in Bitcoin, nor has Britain's best fund manager Terry Smith. I get the point there is a limited supply of Bitcoin, there is also a limited supply of (a crude example) Elon Musk's body waste, but there is no logical reason either should have any intrinsic value.

Even those that understand the technology do not understand markets, the economic implications of a preferred global currency with limited supply, greater fool theory, why intrinsic value matters. They also don't understand what makes a currency a store of value. Why currency needs stability. That the technology is outdated, and doesn't improve upon any existing technology already in place. There is a limited supply of 21M tokens. People who buy, or own bitcoin are speculating that the price of the digital "asset" will continue to go up because someone else, like you will pay more for it later. In Finance, they call this "The Greater Fool Theory." It trades on the bitcoin blockchain which is a peer-to-peer network that validates transactions using multiple points of trust to verify transactions. You are unable to reverse a bitcoin transaction. It is a decentralized network, so there is no 3rd party to correct errors, scams, or have your back when theft takes place. Examples of 3rd parties that will defend you in these scenarios are Credit Card companies, Banks, Brokerage houses, trustworthy merchants. At best bitcoin is a highly volatile and speculative risk asset that tends to do well when the stock market is also doing well. It is not an inflation hedge as demonstrated from Late 2021- Mid 2023 when inflation was at it's rising fast and reached a 40 year high. Gold on the other hand, proved to be an inflation hedge during that time. Bitcoin rebounded with the stock market, as inflation was beginning to moderate, and the economy remained stable. If I had a choice to buy a business that provides value, innovates new technology, produces goods & services, returns capital to shareholders and can grow it's business over time, OR a digital asset that produces nothing, give me the business that can grow every time. 1 bitcoin will always be 1 bitcoin. A business can grow from a funky computer company trying to be different, into a smartphone company that is used by the wealthiest 20% of the global population.
