I call them "Tanktainers "
@tscottme
@tscottme 2 жыл бұрын
I think the most important thing to know about pulling tankers is THE CUSTOMERS ARE AWESOME 99% of the time. In dry van and reefer treatment and conditions for the driver vary tremendously by individual customers. Tanker customers are almost always great to drivers. Most tanker drivers say "I wish I had moved to tanker sooner." Anyone can deal with the surge. You just learn a few safe techniques, and ALWAYS drive like you were taught. Quality Carriers is a good company with terminals all over the country. They were bought by CSX railroad a couple of years ago. HQ is Tampa, I never saw it in the 3 years I worked for them. Trucks have forward-facing and driver-facing cameras plus several safety features in the truck (adaptive cruise, collision mitigation system, lane departure warning). My tractor had built-in refrigerator and satellite TV/DVR. Benefits are good, One thing to keep in mind about most tanker companies, think of them as lots of Terminals operating under one corporate name instead of thinking of them as one big company with multiple locations. What I mean is the customers, pay, schedules, equipment, etc can vary by which terminal you are working for. Often, the only people that know all of the important details are the drivers and the Terminal Manager at that one terminal. Most, but not all, tanker companies do not hire drivers with zero experience, but most do not require ANY tanker experience. EVERY CDL driver should get a Tanker endorsement as it is required for various freight that can be carried in dry van/reefer and on flatbed. Tanker endorsement never expires or needs to be renewed. It's a very easy test. All tests for EVERY endorsement can be found at TruckerCountry.com. That's what I use to study to renew my HazMat. Tankers are much easier to back than a 53 foot van and you hardly ever notice any crosswind, even in WY.

I let my CDL's expire once about 15 yrs ago. Cost me a small fortune to get them back. I had quit driving to raise a family. Big mistake, but when I got them back I didn't take the tanker test. Foolish, and mistake number two. I'll be taking that test soon, and applying for hazmat and TWIC

Completed my program and earned my CDL Dec 4th 2020, started hauling fuel Dec 29th 2020. Best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm 40 and I wish I would've done this in my 20s. Covid forced a career change. God willing, I'll retire here in 25 or 30 years. Just focusing on staying healthy which is easier when you're home every night, but still important.

Shout out to Anthony. My husband and I both worked for QC, I worked out of the Bristol, WI terminal from 1999 - 2013. My husband worked there 2003 -2005 and 2006 - 2013. We met in Channelview, TX. In 2008 we were an item, and by 2012 we married. Praise be for government intervention with regard to our pensions. They’ll honor our pensions. I’m so glad things are working out well for you. People should understand that this is a young man’s game. Joe and I bowed out in our 50’s years old. There are always exceptions as long as these guys understand that it is, or was back in the day, a laborsom job. God bless.

Tanker is good I've enjoyed delivering jet fuel. I've known people who are owner operators and company drivers do well with chemical tankers and other types of tankers as well and they don't do much unloading at times. Sometimes with the way it's set up they just drop and get another load. It's good to learn but not always required depending on the modality. Tanker is a very unique specialized niche.

Guys, this is just a heads up for drivers because as you say many drivers may be changing jobs. Check your DMV regularly. My son is a truck driver who has driven local and long haul. Initially he was hired by a large trucking company (one of the major ones that I will not name) and he worked for them 4-5 years both local and long haul. Things eventually soured so he applied for and was hired by an independent. He was ready to make the move and then he was contacted by the new employer about a speeding ticket he got in Ohio. The problem? He had never been in Ohio! So he tried to clear it up. It was a giant runaround. Ohio wouldn't talk to him, he had to go through California. Long story short Ohio said that the case was closed and the only way to look into it was to hire an attorney and have a Magistrate reopen it. Too much money so he dropped it and lost the new job opportunity. I wondered what had happened because my son is huge and distinctive looking. How could an officer confuse him with someone else? Fast forward 1 year. I overheard someone talking about their brother who was a driver for another major carrier, who got a ticket in Kentucky under similar circumstances but he had followed through and hired a lawyer. It turned out that it was a photo radar trap. The Jurisdiction contacts the carrier with the truck number and the carrier provides the information over who was driving. If the fine is paid the driver may never get notified. My belief is that they assigned the ticket from a driver with ticket problems to a driver with a clear record and paid the fine to keep from losing the trouble driver. The other driver (Kentucky) got it removed from his record but his employer said, "were sorry, we just made a mistake". I do not know if he was reimbursed for legal fees. I'm sorry that it is so long, but I just wanted to give people the warning.

What’s a 34 reset? I really want to know as I’m not a trucker.
@tscottme
@tscottme 2 жыл бұрын
Trucking rules on driver working and driving are based, not on a 5 or 7 day week, but number of hours worked/driven in a 7 or 8 day period instead of the 40 hour work week. Most trucking companies operate under a 70 hours/8 day regulation from the govt. The driver can work and/or drive up to 70 hours in a rolling 8 day period. The federal regulations also don't use a 24 hour day. The 34 Hour reset means if you use up all of your allowed work/drive hours you can park and rest for 34 hours. Once you rest for 34 hours your 70 hour clock is reset and you now have a fresh new 70 hours you can work/drive. Here is a summary of the Hours of Service rules for truck drivers. www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/summary-hours-service-regulations

The pain of her sharp tongue over-rode the pleasure of her company, if you know what I mean. Anyway, it's a good company to work for.

Just read article said " AAA claims in article, "YES Washington state bracing for $10.00 a gallon"". Article said fuel shortages already occurring.
@tscottme
@tscottme 2 жыл бұрын
Most of the fuel shortage is going to be concentrated near the East Coast. Colonial Pipeline is the biggest pipeline supplier of fuel to the East/Northeast. They were victim of a ransomware cyber attack and some shipping issues related to the Ukraine-Russian war are affecting the East. West Coast supply and price issues are related to insufficient refining capacity and "special blends" plus massive taxes. Think of someone trying to maintain a gluten-free, vegan, keto diet just after a hurricane wipes out supermarkets and warehouses. The more picky your demands are the less supply you can use.

I hear you guys in this, but individuals don't want to pay for the license. Now I have had my license since 1997. I got mine through the county work water and sewer. I paid $75.00 for my test and license. That is crazy to see what they make individuals pay for a license nowadays. It's crazy, it's just crazy and now with all the license issues out there, we have a shortage big time. I make great money, more than my ex-wife who is a dental hygienist! 😂Lol and she had me bent over the barrel. Now who is laughing! ??? Yah, I have paid my dues and my way for the kids and I wouldn't ever let them down, but marriage(the laws) and the life needs to change. I can't date a 25 year old woman. I just can't at 52, even though I look like I'm in my 30's. That's another story, but it's crazy to think there isn't anyone out there to get a license. And not to mention that not everyone can do what we do. We use to hire 20-30 individuals every .month and only 3 would make it past probation. That is 3 accidents in that time, small accident's etc. But both our jobs are physically demanding. Just saying.👍🙏👊🇺🇸
