Practice Less = Better Performance. Stop detraining speed and athletiscism with fatigue, tired athletes. Traditional conditioning detrains many of the qualities of athleticism that should be the priority. Across all sports, the training of the CNS through speed work, lifting, jumping, and bounce should be the priority in all training. Tired is the enemy, not the goal!

Watching our football teams lineman (while we had a practice on the side) running windsprints “to get tougher” before they went into the weight room hurt my soul.

I like that concept of the practice being just over half of game time… I think it can be summed up in the idea that after training / practice you should leave them wanting more ( feeling like they could do more), not feeling drained and not wanting to come back.

I'm in my 50s. I remember daily practices being brutally long as well. I looked forward to game days because it was way easier! 😂 If it was an away game, I even got sleep time to and from.

Hello coach, I'm a sprinter that can run a 10.3 in a heat in the morning then a 10.5 in the semis the same day while still running with maximum intent, and a 10.6 to 10.8 the following day around mid morning in the finals, which type of training will enable me to have consistent times through the rounds without burnout?

My guys don’t have burnout. Focus on speed and health. Stop thinking endurance.

I am a distance runner. My mile rn is 4:09. Problem is my top speed is not good which makes the mile feel like a sprint. My top speed is 17 18 mph at most. I ran a 100 and ran 12.8. What would you recommend on how I can implement your principals along with the distance training. And is it possible to make top speed gains even though as a distance runner if I stay touch with it. This week I did 4 50 meter sprints in around 6.5 to 7 seconds. And I plan on in 2 days doing some fly runs around 10 meters for 3 reps. I was wondering if you recommend else?

Top speed flys in a sprint session (see Atomic Speed Workout) 2-3x times a week. X-factor as your warmup on other days.
