I finished your book on audible. I love it. I’m using it to master the memory techniques. Currently I can memorize a deck of cards in about 15-20 mins, and about 100 numbers in the same amount of time. I appreciate the content you create. Thank you.

Many great truths here …… I won’t mention them all, ….. Anthony did this already. But I cannot keep silent about this last one ……. Tell others about what you’ve learned ! Teach them ! Even if you’re not great (yet) at it yourself….you may answer your own questions listening to theirs. As for me …. I cannot keep silent about memory palace techniques. I even got my psych interested ! And I told him this helps my brain a great deal, even after a real brain crash some ten years ago. The light in his eyes made me happy. Another golden one …. Things that wire together, fire together! Thanks Anthony, for the fire and glow in your eyes. It makes every word you say worthwhile. And when I put them to the test, every word proves to be true. Always grateful for having bumped into your channel. Patricia, Antwerp Belgium 👍🙏

Hey Anthony, I just discovered you on youtube about a week ago. Awesome stuff. Hint, before I had typed in "memory"on youtube and not much came up but about a week ago I had the bright idea of typing in 'mneumonic' which gave much more interesting results. Been tumbling down the memory rabbit hole since then, listening and being inspired by many of your videos, as well as discovering other people, like Lynne Kelly and Brady Adams, etc. years ago (maybe 1998) I read Harry Lorrayne's 'complete guide to memory mastery' which is a great book and I highly recommend. I learned and practiced the numbers and cards, over the years. (mainly if I was walking somewhere then to keep my mind entertained I would go through the pegs.) Also when I had 2 months without an internet device, while staying at a hostel, in the evening to keep my brain active I would memorise at least one deck of cards. (using a story of associations between the pegs). I didn't time these but I guess around 3 minutes when I was in practice. In terms of location though I knew about the method of Loci, and do have one fairly long standing route of 100 locations which I have found useful for loading things into memory. The problem is because I was always using the same memory palace, things tend to become over written, so things don't really stick long term. Anyway long and short of it I have now started building quite a few new memory palaces, with the specific intention of storing only one thing there. (at least until that thing is really mastered). So far I've used my old college where I did A-levels to learn the periodic table. (I have the names more or less down, and have started associating the numbers and symbols.). General knowledge is not something that's ever been particularly expansive with me, because I tend to have rather narrow interests. (maths chess and machine learning). So the idea of actually having like a library store of knowledge is really appealing, and also I find the process both enjoyable and mind expanding. Thanks for all the great vids, Richard

Evening Anthony, I've listened to hours of material and your techniques have helped me pass examinations by remembering principles/theories which I thank you... Yet my personal challenge is 100 recipes verbatim including cooking process and ingredients (my current career) Yet what techniques do I use???...you mentioned my #26 memory palaces, yet for: French Onion Soup recipe...15 Ingredients, 10 critical steps in cooking process what for do I use?... I wonder if any memory master ever came across chefs or entrepreneurs that knew their recipes cold like all of them....

Great project. I would use a slightly different setup for something like that, but without actually doing it or running an experiment outside of a consulting session, don’t think it’s fair to wildly speculate. I’ll see if I can find any research on how chefs handle the demands. In a related realm, I’ve had many bartenders and sommeliers tell me they’ve benefitted from using the techniques. From the discussions I’ve had with them, they modify the techniques very slightly and use the Major for amounts.

Great to read this commitment, Tony! I’d suggest the next thing would be to get a book and/or course from your preferred memory teacher. Then spend at least 90 days studying and practicing their approach. Apply the techniques to a specific learning goal. And feel free to shout out if you have questions along the way or just want to share an update. Looking forward to your success and compliments on your initiative! 💪

Sending you gratitude from a Daoist monastery near Seattle! 💙☯️🌲 I’d love a walkthrough of your heart-sutra room. I’ve got lots of fun spaces for the traditional Chinese texts and chanting practices. It’s fun to see how other people keep track of tones, meaning, and characters.

The Heart Sutra place starts in a cafe and will be much bigger than a room. The challenge with sharing these Memory Palaces is that they are deeply personal to me and I have cause to keep them secure. But I also have pedagogical reasons to believe that the real work is not to share walkthroughs but inspire people to use their own. The spectator sport notion of memory techniques strikes me as deeply anathema to what helps people learn them for learning purposes, though it seems to have some effect in the memory competition world - noting that they spend minimal time sharing walkthroughs themselves.

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM 😲 I was, for instance, going to create a completed palace for my Taiji Quan students. Just for the simplified short form, to make it easier for them to enter into practice. Do you find that it’s ineffective or less useful in some way? My hope is to make the initial movement memorization process a bit less overwhelming. (Sorry to message bomb your inbox! How would you apply memorizing branching in a memory palace. For example, if I am learning a chess opening and at the fifth move there are three possible moves my opponent could play, and I have to react according to each move separately. So how would I actually go about learning the each variation without increasing my workload dramatically

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM faith, maybe, belief is though. Belief is more important than the "intellectuals" consensus of today estimate. You wouldn't even try memory techniques if you didn't believe you had nothing to lose, or that it could work, or you have spare time. You believe in science. You believe that these techniques work because of predominantly epidemiological studies and anecdotal evidence. Others believe that intention is important. That's where they are at philosophically, and they aren't wrong. They say intention, here you say action, and I say you're both wrong, it's about equilibrium, meaning intention to do something, attention (doing it), observing, analyzing and document. This is essentially what you teach and what LOA teaches. You come across like you don't understand LOA, the bible, or other religious teachings. Maybe a tad bit of cognitive dissonance (which we are all subject to) and smart people group think (appeal to authority [scientific consensus]) or perhaps a rebellious spirit often found in people who only believe in the science god as opposed to the god they grew up with. All this said, sometimes, because of the baggage that comes with the bible, loa, Hinduism, whatever, it is easier to appeal to people biases to get them to do what they'd be taught in those beliefs anyway

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I put intellectuals in quotes not because they identify as such, but because they are often considered as such
@AnthonyMetivierMMM
@AnthonyMetivierMMM 2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't believe in science precisely because science requires zero belief. It is a tool for gathering evidence that confirms or invalidates our hypotheses about the world and works precisely because it operates independent of belief and/or faith. Thus, science is not a god, though it is all too true that people create an incorrect image of what it is in their minds. And their worship stinks to high heaven. You're right: I don't understand the Bible. I'm deeply suspicious of anyone who claims they do, and encourage maximum skepticism as we use the tool of science to help us navigate the world.

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM science requires zero belief? Explain how that makes any sense. Let me tell you something, proof does not exclude belief because it is limited to what you already know. If youre going to turn this into a game of semantics, define your terms.
