When I wrote The Victorious Mind, I focused on just one type of memory-based meditation.
Now the time has finally come to teach the second type of memory-based meditation.
Like Type 1, Type 2 is based heavily on the Memory Palace technique. But in this case, it draws even more heavily on research by Dr. Tim Dalgleish.
In his research, Dalgleish has shown how using the Method of Loci (a.k.a the Memory Palace technique) can help reduce depression and symptoms from other issues, such as PTSD.
I covered this research in depth in a live stream. Feel free to watch the replay, which is called:
Can the Memory Palace Technique Help Depression? [Memory Science Evidence]
• Can the Memory Palace ...
Not only has this approach to using the Memory Palace helped me personally, but it is bound to work.
And so I want to begin releasing a number of guided meditation videos on this channel.
First, in this video, I need to explain more about the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 memory-based meditation.
I wanted to go into depth because this will be a new direction for the channel and I hope regular and new viewers will support the initiative. I have every reason to believe that this is the biggest contribution the Magnetic Memory Method initiative can bring to humanity.
If the whole idea that memory training and meditation can go together is new to you, here's a video that breaks it down. It's called:
Mindfulness and Meditation for Better Memory
• Mindfulness And Medita...
This video is chapter two of The Victorious Mind audiobook and presents the key research and the reasons why I think Type 1 memory-based meditation works so well. To this day, I continue to practice both.
There is much to explore when it comes to Type 2, so I hope you'll find this introduction video informative and useful.
My hope is that this approach gives you something more active and consequential to do. It should be an alternative to the "Memory Recall" videos that talk about binaural beats and the like.
Such as this kind:
• Video
There's no research that shows any such things work.
But there's lots of research showing that techniques like I shared in this TEDx Talk work very well:
• Two Easily Remembered ...
But what does work is showing up consistently to practice and I will be rolling out deeply engaging sessions that will relax you, help you increase your focus and boost your memory.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the project, and I can't wait to help you through the same Free Memory Improvement Kit that has helped many others over the years.
That way you can enjoy both types of memory-based meditation with ease.

Thanks as always for your interest and support.
Talk soon!
Sincerely,
Dr. Anthony Metivier

I have been using this kind of training with the book Description by Monica Wood to improve my descriptive writing skills. I find it so helpful that I am able to recall the descriptive passages by verbatim, and I do that while I am walking or commuting. But still, I suffer from bad time management, not because I have a lot to do during the time, it is rather my constantly chattering and doubtful mind that make my always seem out of time. I need help with that please! How can I use the MMM techniques to better schedule and take action?

Great question. One thing to consider is having a vision statement that you can remember at all times. Have you created one? If not, here's a training that might help you out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3fdZGR-pbueoJI Then, I would suggest using a printed calendar and using a Mnemonic Calendar to memorize dates and times. Finally, creating and placing large Mind Maps in places you'll see them every day can help. It's helped me get large projects done a lot. Do these suggestions help you out? :-)

Basically, if you have a 00-99 PAO, you assign a character to each month of the year and each day of the month. You can also use the same technique to memorize specific hours.

I've found it very powerful and although I'd thought about it before, I wasn't as proactive as I could have been. For reference, here's what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iobZq4OCnLucjsU So far, my experiments have been incredibly healing, though I still have two potential Memory Palaces on my mind that I'm not ready yet to cleanse. There's no particular rush, and I'm sure that when I find the text I think will suit the purpose, it will go very well. In fact, I've been meaning to memorize your cards, and one very traumatic place is the perfect size for it. Just thinking about it being neutralized in this way starts a kind of mnemonic therapeutic process rolling, or so it feels.

Very intrigued...is this intended to be more in depth version(s)/practices of the MMM meditations? Or am I way off here? Either way I'm excited to see what's next, although I can't think of much at the moment, besides something for language learning/verbs or something along those lines. Maybe something that would be possible to "link" up mind mapping as well?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM

Great to hear from you, Xavier. These will be related to those meditations, but also depart from them. As mentioned, this initiative is experimental, so we'll have to see how things go for people. But the ones in the MMM Masterclass are strictly for spatial and multi-sensory purposes related to using the techniques and remain exclusive to the program. If you're in The Victorious Mind Facebook group, you'll see a meditation exercise that links somewhat to mind mapping as the pinned video. I'll think about how it might be incorporated into this project. It's a good idea and there is at least that one way to go about it in the form of a guided meditation. Thanks for stimulating the connection! In the meantime, how has your memory and meditation practice been going? Are you able to practice much? :-)

That’s interesting. In the case of our Type 2 Memory-based Meditation, we will use episodes from our own lives. But now that you mention it, we can use other lives as well. Ultimately, that won’t create the same autobiographical memory benefits, but it would likely create verbatim memory benefits. Are you memorizing the scriptures verbatim in your practice?

Watch and like a lot of your videos for help with memory. Maybe add "Editorial" in the title for videos like this so that Subscribers do not think this will help in meditation. Very happy to suggest some for you, Djamel. Here are the ones I've memorized starting in historical order: 1. Kirtan Kriya with tutorial from Gary Weber: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5nZoJ6bj9OLg68 2. Ribhu Gita extract. The text is in Weber's Evolving Beyond Thought and my The Victorious Mind. Here's Weber reciting it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5nLomOsZZx3eJI Here's me reciting it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZixgmyYipKhe8k 3. Upadesa Saram. I memorized both from the text in Weber's Happiness Beyond Thought and this video with English and Sanskrit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nprEm5d-obCln8U 4. Nirvana Shatakam. I memorized directly from this version (there's another version, but this is one the one Dr. Weber recommends): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJuYcoaNbZJlppI I've memorized 15 verses from the Song Celestial as well, but am not done yet. Do these pieces help you get started?

congratulations Anthony for starting memory-based meditation path! yet I don`t have enough context on this meditation practice, but I have seen result from it. for type 2 I used a memory palace to store happy memories its hard to not work, but the issue I faced that the memory palace got destroyed in real life, sometimes I recall the breaking of it more than the memories. my Idea is to try it with more solid MP. as I recall in Garry Small interview in the MMM he talks about stress management to prevent Alzheimer. is there a direct relation between Memory-based meditation and preventing Alzheimer? what is the difference between neutralizing and Elimination؟
@AnthonyMetivierMMM
@AnthonyMetivierMMM 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. It's important to be very careful about claims around these diseases. If it's genetic, I'm not sure what hope any techniques hold. But other than that, there are some promising research papers out there and I encourage people to look into them. In terms of the difference between neutralizing negative/unwanted thoughts and neutralizing them is that if we can neutralize them, it's no problem for them to be present. But if we're still bothered by their presence, then we are not free. This is very important because the world has always been filled with unexpected triggers for thoughts that can be unwanted. So we need to be prepared to "neutralize" them because there's no reason to believe they are ever going away. Does this way of looking at it make sense? :-)

This is a little off topic, but I used this method kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWnOkKWEiamdgK8 to memorize the Gettysburg Address. It was extremely effective. This was last year sometime, and the speech is a little hazy in my memory, but a quick review of the first letter of each word revives the memory quickly. I also did this with poems that I had used different methods to memorize. Some of the poems I had completely lost over time. The only ones they remained solid was ones using real memory palaces. However, using the method described in the video above those lost poems returned to my memory quite easily. When I broke all the words down into first letters keeping the punctuation and grammar intact, the recall we pretty stop on. I was wondering how a person could use a memory palace to recall just letters? I'm sure I've over complicating the process. I was considering using different numeric methods as representations of of letters, but that would lead to needless conversions. Something like using a base 16 or even a base 26 number system with each letter retaining a numerical value. I tried figuring something out but it always ends up too convoluted. Another thing, I've tried to use the first letter method (that's what I'm calling it) presented in the video above to memorize the Raven by Poe, but it has proven more difficult than anything else I've tried. I used this same method to memorize the Gettysburg, and it was very effective. And, I did not use a memory palace for either of them - at least not yet. I was wondering about your thoughts on the method in the KZbin video, and if you had any tips or strategies for creating a memory palace based on letters only?

If memory serves, Nelson and I talked about that technique the last time he was on the MMM Podcast. Basically, the limitations you’ve experienced are to be expected with that kind of approach, and I think he and I agreed we would never use it for anything involving showtime. I certainly would never use something so subject to fading an error for a TEDx, to take one example like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oafXip2ap86Gpq8 In terms of a Memory Palace based “purely” on the alphabet, I don’t know what this would mean. But if such a thing exists, the Magnetic Memory Method is close to it because it is based on something like the gematria fused with lessons from memory competitors and the findings of contemporary science.
