Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I never knew this and have suffered endless frustration as a result. That said I would suggest that you substitute "Many things in Lightroom aren't intuitive or obvious" in place of "some things in Lightroom aren't intuitive or obvious."

It works the same way as adding lines in Excel spreadsheets within a cell

I prefer adding captions, tags and keywords in Picasa, Google’s old software that still stands up. I’ve had problems in the past especially with keyword tags entered in Lightroom and when you search, the quantities are wrong. You could add a tag to 100 images and it would show 90 photos when you search for example. Admittedly it was a few years back so should try again with Lightroom but always found Picasa, 100% reliable adding exit data to the file properties.
