She was 15 years old during this performance on “You Are Super” for disadvantaged children. This is blocked now but I use to watch all the young Amazing children who participated back then. It is Diana's real voice - and the voice of the century. She had shot to fame a year earlier when winning the 2018 "You are Super" competition, all four of her performances on it being in their different ways masterpieces. This performance is the second of three performances she gave a year later when repeating the exercise and winning the same competition in 2019. After she won Igor Krutoy (Dimash, Lara Fabian etc) bought her a flat in Moscow so that she could move there and enrol in a top music school. She then started to work intensively on her upper register. The resulting widening of her range is evident in the 9-episode 2021 "ShowMaskGoOn" competition with very well known professional singers (who also acted as the judges), which she again won. Her episode #1 performance - if that is the right word, "epic Greek tragedy" is more fitting - of Elvis's song "Can't help falling in love" quite literally left them all stunned and stupefied. She has started to compose and write her own songs now - she is 20 - and "Revelation" in particular is very remarkable. But most reactors go through her back catalogue first. The competition performances had hundreds of millions of views before they were taken down because of a spat between YT and the Russian TV company. But all have been re-posted now. Diana's development has been all the more incredible because she was orphaned at the age of 3 following terrible abuse by her mother that left her with broken bones and speech problems. She was rescued from a state orphanage and adopted by Irina Ponik, the wonderful woman she now calls her "real" mother.

The voice you hear is her voice unprocessed. I get your confusion, this was my 1st exposure to Diana and i had to watch the video 6 times before i believed what my ears were telling me. Diana is the most dramatic of the dramatic contraltos who is also polyphonic, capable of generating more than 1 note at once. She has a sad origin story but has grown into a formidable young woman and remarkable performer. She is 15 here, now 20.

I have been a fan of Diana’s for over five years. She’s a Contralto but her divine range notes 🎶 are absolutely STUNNING too, she recently sang an ARIA Opera “ Fly on the Wings of Wind” and I absolutely loved her performances on the Masked Singer. She dressed up like ERMINE a Japanese Kitsume’ 🦊. Diana does not have to stick her tongue in her throat…🥹🙆🏻‍♀️🤔. She can sing even lower easily but she chooses to Sing in normal vocal tones all the time. I absolutely 💯 love ❤️ her cover of “Sweet Dreams “ she sang on the masked singer. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. She was terribly mistreated in her first 3years by her alcoholic mother, she had even a broken arm, she had been thrown outside the house in the cold etc. So she was adopted by another family. Because of the depression she couldn't speak before her 5 years. She first started to sing before she could speak. This was a Russian competition held for orphan and adopted children in which she came first as well as in the next one and also in an all star competition against all previeus winners. That's quite enough Anthony to start knowing this girl. Who knows, the pain she experienced as a child perhaps can explain her deap and emotional voice. Ohhh!! Your going down the Diana rabbit hole!! THIS IS HER VOICE & you aint heard nothing yet!! Diana is a rare true contralto and has polyphonic capabilities, which allows her (as I understand) to sing two notes at the same time. The last guy on the panel to press his buzzer is Igor Krutoy (possibly butchered his surname) He is a world-famous composer and songwriter, he retired a few years back but came out of retirement to work with Dimash (you often see him accompanying Dimash on piano) He has also taken Diana under his wing. Diana's background is extremely sad and dark, her mother who was/is a drug addict often abused her, attempted to drown Diana in the bathtub, then abandoned Diane, on the streets of Russia, in the snow, with a broken arm. Diana was 4 years old and unable to speak. Her foster mother (now her adoptive mother) a speech therapist, took Diana for yodelling lessons to help her find her voice and the rest is history. Last I heard, Diana was speaking around 4/5 languages. Diana's voice reminds me of the mythical siren, whose voice hypnotized sailors and led them to their deaths. Yes, this is her real voice, she is a true Contralto which is a very rare female voice type. First a little background, Diana Ankudinova was born on May 31, 2003, and was only 15 years old for this performance of “Wicked Game” during a vocal competition that Diana took part in called “You Are Super”. This competition took place on May 12, 2019, it was During this performance that some reactors were saying it sounded like Diana was using Auto-Tune or pitch correction during her performance, or some other kind of artificial vocal manipulation. The general consensus of many other reactors that are professional recording sound engineers, and actual vocal professionals, not just reactors, all say no. NO auto-tune was added or used, and no other form of electronic voice manipulation was used. What many do not know is this, Diana Ankudinova has learned, mastered, and uses a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing and a singer that has mastered this technique can create an additional tone, not additional notes, but a tone which can add to the harmonic overtones and can makes it sound an octave above and sometimes an octave and ½ above, and she can access an enormous amount of resonance. This is a testimonial to the time, exceptional talent, and dedication Diana has put into her career at such a young age. This performance was her second appearance on the “You Are Super”, vocal competition. The 2019 season of the show was called the “You Are Super Super-Season”, and consisted of winners and finalists from previous seasons. As the 2018 “You Are Super” winner, Diana Ankudinova was invited back to compete in the Super-Season. She ended up also winning this 2019 “You Are Super Super-Season”. As an aside, in 2017 when Diana was 13, her vocal range was first measured from a low of D3 (lower alto range) to a high of A5 (upper alto range), which is unusually low for a 13 year old girl. Diana did not have her vocal range measured again until she was 18 years old on September 25, 2021 during her “ShowMaskGoOn!” competition performance of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” where her vocal range was again measured and Diana’s functional vocal range in 2021 was measured from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range). In 2018, when she first appeared on the “You Are Super” vocal competition Diana performed the Russian folk song “Rechenka” in her native Russian language. It was during this 2018 performance of “Rechenka” that many voice professionals started paying very close attention to Diana Ankudinova because she was displaying such a low, round, rich, deep, resonant sound, with a tone and timbre in her voice that had a maturity, way beyond her years, plus she was a real stage animal, Diana is fearless on stage. Many true vocal professionals were saying Diana Ankudinova’s performance of “Rechenka” was displaying all the hallmarks of her becoming a true contralto voice type, plus her musicality and stage presence was well beyond the vast majority of 14 year old girls. That Mr Ray is a Polyphonic Dramatic Contralto. That has an amazing high end register. The reason you have never heard one before is because, that we know of, she is it. In my humble opinion she is a voice for the ages. A real life Siren. It's like listening to mother earth sing. This was one of her first well known performances. I suggest you check out her last published song, in russian, from her channel, called "The Day You". From there I am sure you will want to check out everything else. She has covers and originals, including one full album. All she does is brilliant, unique. And, as if her talent was not amazing, from her participation in the russian version of The Masked Singer, it turns out she is also a vocal chameleon. That right there is the absolute top shelf in female vocals I have heard in my 50 years. Enjoy your journey.
