Lenny is one of the characters in John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice And Men, that's the reference. I absolutely swooned when Ren did this., along with the David Attenborough bar. So good! No reference in Murderer to Dotta, Ren recorded and shot that over a year ago when he'd never heard of KD. Ren's lifting KD up, so is Knox, really. Dotta's on the radar, thanks to them. Whether he stays there is up to him. Hope he's able to capitalize on their help, improve his game and grow.

In a PERFECT Ren fashion. 1 Showing, that he could INDEED play his game and do it VERY well. 2 Make a point, that there is enough hate and division in the world. Why add to it? 3 Give him a spotlight and challenge him to SHINE. It was everything that we have come to expect from Ren. Love and support.

AR ❤ I think the reference to Lennie is a triple. Lennie Small is a character in the novel "Of Mice and Men". The character's name is already a double because Lennie Small is a physical giant of a man. I think Ren sees Dotta as the Lennie character, and the plot of the novel is a metaphor for the plot of Ren's diss track. In the novel, Lennie is a mentally defective giant who doesn't know his own strength. He's accidentally killed small, soft creatures, such as a puppy he's been given, by being too rough when he attempts to pet them. His friend, George, has always looked out for Lennie, and has tried to keep him from harming anyone. In the end, George is forced to shoot Lennie in a mercy killing, in response to Lennie accidentally killing a woman.
@hendersongalbreath1072 Жыл бұрын
Just the most Ren response possible. Kills the guy with violence and kindness on the same track. I have never heard a diss track that ended with a genuine gesture of goodwill and, as you said in your reaction, an "alley-oop" that gives him a real second shot. This dude is one of a kind.

Lenny was a character in the novel and movie Of Mice and Men, who crushed mice, accidentally, when he picked them up to pet them.

Yep, it's also a bit deeper than that I believe, Lenny was a big Black Guy (like the chap in 'The Green mile'), who had a mental disability, and needed others to support him in daily life. He also killed a woman accidently, by shaking her and snapping her neck (that may have been the transition to the jenny line? I'm not sure, but I'm always looking for the extra layers in Ren's Lyrics, lol). Deep stuff.

Clever of Dotta, I thought, trying to defang one of the advantages Ren has over him. "Don't dazzle 'em with this other shit, I want to compete on the rap field, bar for bar." And Ren's response shows respect for that, while also demonstrating he doesn't NEED any other shit to impress. Doing it a capella works on many levels (including the diss of "it's not worth my time" to produce a beat, or fit this to an existing one), but especially reframed it as a battle rap rather than a diss track, in a way that allows for Ren's game of lifting ships to make sense. 🎉

I enjoyed this reaction review so much I've subscribed. Ren is a whole different kettle of bees to so many artists out there right now, and I love that getting to the end of his performances rewards viewers/listeners with a shot of adrenaline - surprise at him rising to yet another level of genius within it, and that shot is STILL there for the die hard fans, because he's impossible to predict; add that to his extensive vocabulary and innate musical talent and he feels like the future of civilisation within music. Because that's what's lacking elsewhere, progress, insight, courtesy and humanity.

Dotta’s subscribers have doubled as a result of Ren’s track. And even Dotta gave Ren props and respect on Dotta’s community post.
