I'm pretty sure he didn't ask them to use "guru." In the past, the producers have used that profession subtitle under the contestant's name as a way to clearly poke fun at them. I remember one season in the last few years where it wasn't clear what the guy did and they put a completely different title EACH TIME they showed him the first few episodes, and each time was more hilarious than the one before. And sometimes when they talk to the lead they might say a particular title like "event planner" or "marketer," but the producers use "influencer."

I also got the same vibe you did from him when he opened up. There is something off and manipulative about him. After watching the entire clip, I went back to see what his job is because I didn't notice in the beginning, and then saw Sales Executive, I just knew he's full of shit. Come on, his job is to manipulate perceptions in order to get sales. He's used to persuade and if he is an executive that means he's a great persuador with great experience. The vulnerability is just a tactic to have her trust him blindly and believe everything he says.
