I really do appreciate the distinction you make between your own personal feelings towards revols and your viewpoint as a reviewer. Hearing you articulate the things you like, like the torso improvements, and your exact issues, like the shoulders, is more refreshing than a 20 minute review blindly praising or shitting on a figure based solely off the brand

Their V2 Spiderman not only looks fantastic neutral, its the only one who can practically glue his stretched out legs forwards to his torso. The only figure that can replicate McFarlane cover poses ad literam.

I love Revoltech figures. To this day, to me, they still have made the best 1/12th scale Deathstroke, which I almost missed out on. I had always hoped they would make a Thor but wasn't certain they would. I remember when I was about to pre-order the Mafex Classic Thor, but then on the same day, Kaiyodo revealed this, and I dropped any desire for the Mafex one. Though, I do like Mafex figures. They've been killing it. I love this figure. It's about everything I wanted it to be. Sucks I missed out on Moon Knight and really cut it close with Agent Venom. I missed the pre-orders, but I played the game of checking every night because there's always people who cancel and found one on BBTS.

Glad to hear you’ll be making more videos on revoltech. I think out of all the figure lines out rn they are the most consistent ones with the quality of their figures. If you buy a revoltech you’re 99% of the time guaranteed to get the figure you saw on the promo pics. No bad paint job, bad articulation or bad quality control either and I hope you notice that in the reviews. The only thing they have severely downgraded on is the packaging. They used to have my favorite box designs out of any figure company and now they’ve gone with windowless packaging which is sad. Regardless I appreciate you going into the revoltech line again and hope some surprise you.

Wanting to dip my toes into Stop Motion, I find articulation to be my main priority over aesthetics. The figure could be BEAUTIFUL, but I want to actually move it and have plenty of accessories. Personally, Revoltech hits my subjective sweet spot: awesome articulation + solid aesthetics - I love their exaggerated style. I understand the cuts can look mad ugly, but my brain just ... "blocks it out" if that makes sense - not a big issue. Also for aesthetics, they do really well with anime/game adaptions. I'm looking forward to their One Punch Man line and their new Batman from the Arkham game series.

I don't really mind the Amazing Yamaguchi joints - visually anyway - but I agree some of them could likely be engineered a little differently to stand out a bit less with no major detriment to functionality. As far as the aesthetics go though, I just love the anatomy and dynamism of the sculpts... the shapeless hot dog limbs of so many American action figures are way more of an eyesore to me than these joints! These figures are out of my price range but I do love the way they look. Companies like ToyBiz and Kenner used to make super hero figures with these kind of imposing physiques and exciting proportions back in the 90s, so it both confuses and saddens me that we (mostly) only ever see it in expensive high-end figures out of Asia these days.
@xeanheart7 ай бұрын
I pick and choose when it comes to Revoltech. They seem to do alot better with characters who are armored than those who aren't. For me, the main deal breaker is the shoulders. They go back and forth on the type of shoulders that Thor has here and a more standard design, and the former is just way too ugly for me to handle. Like, the upcoming Ryu Hayabusa looks really good all around... except for the shoulders. Still, I am very happy with the few that I have, and I'll probably pick up their Moon Knight if they ever do a repaint of it to give him his Black & White costume.

Im with ya on the aesthetic and articualation balance. I think it is definitely character dependent and as of right now i like well articulated figures. But in my adult days i find myself even admiring less articulated items that are very well sculpted. Even some of the 1/6th scale soft goods figures like the threezero rangers and the recent SooSootoys pre-orders. Overall i prefer 1/12 scale and very good articualtion which again should vary i think for different characters. And yes i was very surprised to see you review a revoltech because i figured you'd hate the aesthetic of those lol. I generally do
@RichardAcevedo28147 ай бұрын
I definitely want articulation. A character like thor should be able to grab his hammer with both hands and hold it out in front of him for instance. I believe this is the only thor that can do that. So while some might say thor doesn't need that much, I disagree. He needs to be able to heave that hammer high over his head like he's about to slam it down. He needs to be able to hit a 3 point pose with the hammer touching the ground, etc.

A sublimely cracking review on one crazy-looking, roided-up Thor figure, with essentially all the dynamic posability you could ever ask for in an action figure; personally, I appreciate how you are able to manipulate this figure into almost any pose possible - that is quite neat! However, as you so eloquently pointed out, there is a rather pertinent proviso that comes with articulation: aesthetic. Those balls in the shoulders and elbows are aberrantly peculiar, and somewhat distracting to the naked eye. Long story short, be mindful of articulation but not at the expense of the aesthetic. Thank you for sharing, Anthony. Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧🇮🇹

I have the revoltech Carnage because I think he is one of the few characters where him looking like a broken model kit actually kinda works, but in general I don't like this style of figure. I agree that they need to be more conscious when putting cuts in for articulation. The raising up the arm thing on Thor is probably the best example of this I've seen, as that's a pose that even makes sense for someone like Thor and he just can't do it.
@JH-uh9zc7 ай бұрын
As for that too, its usually there to pop out the eyes...odd this figure doesnt have it though. I only collect MHA from Revoltech and they include that tool to pop out the eyes.
@rob69127 ай бұрын
Articulation and look have to be perfectly balanced. Ever since I was a kid I could tell when I was holding a good figure. Spiderman for example should be super possible but have some muscle feel to him. Plus they're action figures, I feel like you should be able to do anything you ever wanted to see the character in your hand do.
@paulrippcord5067 ай бұрын
I think the best Revoltech figures are the ones that hide the shoulder ball joints, like I can live with ball joint elbows and knees, I collect Figma after all but the obvious ball joint shoulders stick out way too much for my liking, that’s why I loved the Amazing Yamaguchi Cable, Harley Quinn and Moonknight, they had shoulder pads that hid the ball joints. I know how it sounds, but the shoulders are where your eyes will naturally go when looking at a figure because they form that triangle with the head.

I do typically prefer articulation slightly ahead of aesthetics but these are too broken-up for me. I think if they just used larger balls for their joints it would fix the issue for me. (Edit: I posted this before you said basically the same thing)

Thank you very much for reviewing this product. With the distracting ball's exposed, aesthetics appears to be the trade off for some dynamic posing. The accessories match the offerings other companies such as Mafex can offer. Both your scorings (although I didn't see much cake inspection) are totally agreeable. Personally, I replaced my Marvel Legends 80th ann. Thor with this product. I am a collector that poses a figure (once, twice....ten X's) in the display and leaves it. ML's Thor could not be posed in the position I needed because of the cape and head. Revoltech's Thor could, and did so hiding most of the balls. Again, thanks for your review. For me, it's articulations over aesthetics, but only because I know for a fact that in most of these cases, the minimal gain in aesthetics do not justify the large sacrifices made in articulations. One hill I'll die on is that Revoltech shoulders are infinitely better than your standard disk hinges in ML, at least in concept. Shoulders aren't attached to your torso at the middle of the armpits. But that's what your standard disk hinge gives you. They make the overall shoulders sag unnaturally the second you lift the arms. We're all FINE with it, because that's how action figures have been made since their invention. But then Revoltech made an improvement by making the shoulder joints where the collarbones end, the exact anatomical location of where the human shoulders are supposed to be. They just 9 times out of 10 don't do a good job with the sculpt around the joints, or overengineer it to death. One day a company will figure out the perfect shoulder joint in terms of aesthetics and articulation, building upon the revo shoulders, and that'll be the new standard. THAT SAID. This figure isn't overall executed well enough to be worth getting over any number of ML Thors, imho.

it's not as expensive as it sounds. At this very moment, this figure is about $69 at Hobby Genki. That's the retail price of the figure. That's where the company includes R&D, manufacturing, paint, package, accesories and profit. That's the actual figure cost, we can't take BBTS's pricing which includes shipping, customs tax, store profit and then say paint is lacking, or this or that. Then we are judging the figure based on BBTS's shipping cost and tax at customs. It doesnt make any sense, because none of that money went into the figure cost. I understand thats how much it costs for US citizens using their most popular store, but we need context for that price. The figure is $69 and add another 15 for the cheapest shipping and there you have it

Wasn’t expecting a Revoltech, review. I wanted the Arkham Knight batman but couldn't get the pre-order in time. I too value a good balance between articulation and aesthetic. If a terrible looking figure has amazing articulation, it is just a pile of junk that can move well I suppose. This trade off, however, has never really surfaced for me, in so far as Revoltech is concerned (although I know for most people it does) because I seem to like how these look quite a lot. The two exceptions for me would be the old Batman and Spiderman figures, the later of which looks absolutely terrible imo.

The skin tone made me think of Beta Ray Bill.

I thought I was going insane because I thought I was the only one who thought this figure looked ridiculous even by Amazing Yamaguchi standards. Look at him standing up straight and tell me that looks good. I get Thor is supposed to be big but this one looks like he had synthol injections plus his torso looks stretched out and his legs are too short.
