Using Set Actions in Tableau to Drill into Data

Great tutorial, it works well at the worksheet level, but doesn't function when it is moved onto a dashboard. Is there a way around that?

Try adding the actions via the dashboard instead of the worksheet.

Hi Anthony, any idea as to why when I add on the third level it doesn't expand like it's supposed to. For example, when I select conference, everything opens not just the conference I selected. thanks for any help

Had the same Problem. Did you check your calculated fields? You have to add an "AND" for every set that is used before. For example: The calculated field for the 3rd drilldown should be "if [Conference Set] AND [Division Set] AND [Team Set] then ... ELSE "" END"

So, do you not use a hierarchy when using the sets for drill down? In the Default Drill method there was a Conference hierarchy, but then all of a sudden there wasn't when going to show new method.

I tried set drill function, works very well in worksheet and dashboard, but it’s not working in story navigation point, is it limitation in Tableau?

It is possible to hide the unselected values, for example: I have the data for 2018 and 2019, the drill would be Year / Month / Day, when I say 2018 should hide 2019 and only show me the months of 2018 and click on January to hide the other months. I'm sorry if you do not understand, I know very little English.

This is wonderful way! however, after implementing, I see one issue, the same drill down which works well using set actions on dashboard level doesn't work when the same dashboard is pulled on a Story. Do you also see same issue and is there any way out? As I understand, we can't create set up actions at Story level.

Hi Anthony, I have a problem. I want to combine Filter Action with Drill Down Action. Three sheets, one dashboard. You can either FILTER a country or DRILL DOWN into the subsidiaries in that country. Bu tin the other sheets you see it broken down into departments and cost types. Now if I want to know the HR department costs, I click on it and it filters all other sheets. Fine, then I want to filter for USA, so I see only HR costs in USA. Also fine, but when I then press drill down on USA it removes the filter from department even though I drilled into Country. Why is that and how can I circumvent that?

For some reason clicking on the first level opens up the second level for the one I click on and also opens all the third level for the ones I didn't click on. Anyone know why that is?
