Thank you so so much for this informative video. I just subscribed to you channel. I have an Antherium plant that I bought two years ago. I am in Canada and its winter now (December) I am finding that some leaves are decaying. The plant itself has not been growing. It's on my living room window sill and getting the setting sun about two hours sunlight. I had used egg eggs on this and my other plants in the past. Only fertilizer used so far. Can you please give me some suggestions. Should I repot it into a new soil now in winter? Thank you for your help.

What does it mean when the spadix starts turning dark? Like a deep red with black traces. The stems look really healthy and the other flower spadix look perfectly fine it’s just the older ones that are turning dark
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching, the spadix of the anthurium is what produces the seed. So once the flower is starting to die and does not produce seed this is the first area to go brown and die. Then it moves its way down to the larger pedal. I know it’s heartbreaking losing your anthurium flower but once you see this starting to happen it’s a good idea to snip the flower out at the base in order to encourage new flowers. Along with regular fertilization you’ll have a new bloom before you know it.

@delicioushomeandgarden64

You say they don't like to sit in moisture but there are videos on youtube that show them growing bare root in just a container of water and they seem to do very well with the new roots growing, why does that work ok do you think?
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question, it can either grow in pure water or soil. It’s the wet soil or soggy soil that gets mould and root rot. And when you do use the water version the water must be cleaned out regularly. When the soil is wet all kinds of bacteria can start to grow and damage your roots. Remember soil is a living thing. It has many nutrients but also live organisms. Thanks for the great question and thank you for watching. PS I’ve also seen people grow them with fish and water at the bottom, pretty cool.

A bit of clarification Epsom salt 1/2 a teaspoon to ?1 litre of water. NEEM Oil soap 12 drops to how much of oil?
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Mohammed, my watering can is 2 litres, so half a teaspoon epson salt to 2 litre warm water. With regards to the bug spray it’s 12 drops dish soap to six drops name oil oil to 1 L of water. Shake well before using every time. I use Dawn dish soap but you can use any brand you wish. The dish soap helps the Neem oil to adhere to the plant leaves in order to protect it.

@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 Жыл бұрын
IK thank you for watching, when your flowers get light in colour and they are not bright and vibrant that’s due to not enough indirect light. You need to keep it close to a window, but not so close that the sun actually hits them because that will burn or if you know a window that only gets three hours of direct sun, you are able to put it there, increase your fertilizer. Fish fertilizer is best and they should start re-blooming for you more vibrantly.

The Epson salt, do you melt it first before you apply on your Anthurium? One more question, and why is my anuturium flower turning green?
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching 🙏🏽 Yes dissolve the Epson salts in water. Your Anthurium is probably turning green because of low light. Move it to a spot with brighter indirect light and your new flowers should be much more colourful. Also increase your fertilizing if you are not fertilizing start to give it some fertilizer follow recommended amounts on your packaging. Also use a fertilizer with a high middle number, this should give you more flowers

@delicioushomeandgarden64 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vickram, thanks for watching. I do have a Facebook page if you would like to send photos of the plants that way I can help further. The name of the Facebook page is delicious home and garden. Firstly spider mites love winter because it’s dry and they can make their web and multiply. If you can get your hands on insecticidal soap and a bucket. Make a solution and place the entire plant to wash off the leaves. You can even immerse the entire plant in the soapy water solution for a couple minutes. Remove the plant and let sit for a few minutes. While the plant is still wet. Spray it with half alcohol and half water. Both these items will still leave your fruit edible. Try to increase the humidity in your home and crack a window open once in a while for airflow. This will help to stop the spider mites multiplying and coming back. You can repeat the alcohol water spray every day until they are gone. Please wipe down furniture and or other plants that may be infected

NPK 20-20-2 water soluble fertizer I have . Is it fine for Anthurium ?
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 3 жыл бұрын
The three numbers on a bag of fertilizer indicate the respective percentages of nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) it contains. ... For example: Fertilizer marked 15-15-30 contains 15% nitrogen, 15% phosphorous and 30% potassium. Antherium lilies need a fertilizer that has more phosphorus if you want more blooms. My suggestion is also to feed it with half or a quarter of the recommended dosage. For continuous bloom. A little bit of iron ore acidic fertilizer would be nice as well once every three months. Half strength that will keep the leaves nice and green and shiny Thanks for watching 🙏🏽

How do you transplant anthurium
@delicioushomeandgarden64
@delicioushomeandgarden64 Жыл бұрын
If you’re transplanting your anthurium, don’t choose too large of a pot just go up 1 inch in pot size anthurium don’t like to be in wet soggy soil for a long. Once you’ve transplanted it and chose the correct soil, I would suggest using a transplant fertilizer for the first two watering‘s. This will ensure your plant has taken route and is happy and it’s new pot.

Thank you, and appreciate you watching. Shobna The trick is the fertilizer. Once it’s spring and daylight is long. I start fertilizing every week that I water. I just don’t use full strength. Hi first of all Charlie thank you for watching, I’m sorry you’re having an issue with your leaves. I’ve never seen a red underneath but I have seen a rust colour or brown. And that’s due to watering issues and not letting the plant completely dry out before watering. Overwatering can cause a fungal and rust like circles to grow on your plants leaves. As well as it turns the stems yellow. I do have a Facebook page delicious home and garden. You can send me photos there and maybe I might be able to help that way. Thanks again for watching

i bought an anthurium 5 weeks ago and it was blooming at that time...but after 3 days one by one the leaves started turning yellow, and so i thought of changing the soil as instructed. and today, the last leaf fell too ...so i was wondering if it will rise again from the root or is it dead already TT

Turning yellow, can be overwatering. Keep an eye on how much you water and be sure to let it completely dry out before watering again. Please also make sure that your new soil drains really well. Hard for me to tell without looking at it if it’s going to die or not. Please send me pictures on Facebook at delicious home and garden. I might be able to help that way. Thanks for watching

What would you like to know about the eggshells? They were powder form and sprinkled on the top of the plant

Great question, thanks for watching. Once the flower dies make sure you completely remove that stem from the plant. With fertilizer and proper lighting the plant should give you a new bloom. Bloom start small and they get larger with time
