Freaking excellent list. So many "coaches" put out advice for women to enable this behavior and strategize to "attract him back." All of that is B.S. And #1 is absolutely key. I've stopped chasing after people entirely. If I've clearly expressed my interest in them and they pull away, I don't even bother understanding why anymore. It might be their insecure attachment style, their past traumas, their unhealed wounds. It might be that they're just busy and overwhelmed and don't know how to make space for a relationship. Or they might be playing games. But ultimately, it's everyone's individual responsibility to communicate those things, and if they can't, it's not my job to intuit for them. I spent way too much time doing all the emotional labor in relationships only to get taken for granted. What Matthew Hussey said once was right on: "I understand you have your reasons but I have my reality- and what I'm interested in is my reality." If a man pulls away from me, I assume the connection is done with and stop investing. If they come back, I usually only entertain them as an acquaintance. Trust built takes work to bring back online- and for me, doing that work with someone that already disappeared once isn't worth it.

Thank you, yes, I think he is pulling away because he is an avoidant. Just a new term I have learnt about. Me, I am secure, especially now when I understood I should not take his attitude personally. I think we have a perfect relationship, we feel so good with each other, but he has never opened his heart to me, his previous break up was also quite painful, so he is sort of mistrusting, and addition has just got a new job which does not allow us to see each other only every second week-end (as we have bith kids with half custody). He is moving slowly, but he is present. I am not in any way dependent on him, but I feel the distance plays its role in pushing us apart, we might lose interest to each other all together: out of sight out of heart... Such a shame for I believe he is my man. Anyway, if he is not fighting for us, he is quite happy on his own, so I let him meet other people and walk his own way. The one problem for me is that we ARE committed, so I can not just go and meet other men. It's not my way to do so just because he is far away. But, it's true that he does not reassure me neither in his feelings nor in our couple as a foundation for future plans. That's why I am sort of lost...

Hello. I sure could use some advice. I have not dated in 15 yrs. finally met someone and, it has been an experience! I actually am not up to date on the dating thing so, I kind of let him take the lead. The "difficult" thing for me in this relationship is that he is 16 yrs. my junior. I made it very clear from the onset that I was not looking or waiting for a one nighter. I was waiting for a serious relationship . Since pretty early in our 3 mo. relationship. He would even bring up that he was looking for marriage material. There's inconsistencies in what he says he is going to do and what he actually does. Is 3 mos. too early to know if he's the right guy for me?

I believe part of the problem is that in the beginning we were giving each other way too much attention. Then when things shifted in our daily routine where we couldn't give each other as much attention, we developed feelings of abandonment. It's something to work through and we had to remember how much we love each other and just how crazy we are for each other. To put it in a nutshell, we spoiled each other too much in the beginning. But it was all worth it because we now know just how committed we are to each other without feeling clingy or suffocated.
