Wow - so great to see all those lovely tomatoes, and to see you smiling through the whole video. 😄

I've also noticed tomato fruit trusses growing new suckers, especially on cherry tomato varieties. And my gardener's delight has also been growing suckers also all along the length of the plant's leaves. Never seen this before so interesting that others have had this experience as well this year. 🤔 I'm in Eastern Ontario 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Looking great. Money Don on Gardener's World 2 August, talked about tomato whitefly. His are suffering from it, it affects the leaves and the honeydew gives the tomatoes a mouldy staining. However he said you can wash it off.

Love your videos, JB! Spoon tomatoes are really cute and the first to ripen for me. But soooo prolific. I discovered that freezing them whole works really well for those extras and they are fabulous added to dishes all winter for little pops of fresh tomato flavor and color. We love them in eggs and as soup and stew garnishes. Happy harvesting this month! -Kryn

Well look at the tomato jungle.. how cool is that view? (Ok.. not actually cool temp wise). My outdoor tomatoes are shocking this year, compared to the indoor. I’m not sold on growing any outside again next year. Love the Apero trusses. My cherry brandywine seem to be growing similar type of trusses. The greenhouse jungle is positively wild 😂😱😍

Looking good JB, I've only got one tomato I'm really keen to finish 'Berkley tie die' it won a blind taste test against hundreds of varieties with hundreds of testers at a big US homesteading show, been trying to get seeds for 5 yrs, all the pics I've seen are regular size toms, mine are huge look like beefsteaks with the characteristic tie die stripes.

Noticed the same with my Alice’s Dream, indoor stunted and outdoor really strong and healthy, but a few weeks behind. Im guessing the weather extremes is playing havoc more so for indoor growing. I’m using quite a few Autopots for years now and use Biobizz fertiliser, no smell issues and is absorbed into the pots quickly. Thus by using the individual pot trays once a week. They also have instructions on their website for this method. Looking forward to your tomato taste tests. 👍

I am growing Black Moon outdoors in quad grows. The trusses are looking great so far. My Honeycombe cherries which were amazing last year are looking quite poor which is annoying for an expensive F1 variety and they are having the same water and feed at the Black Moons in the quads. Maybe they liked the grow bags better last year who knows. HArvested my first Black Beauty in my greenhouse but dalys it was inedible because it had been got by snails and had a big hole very sad for that as they are my fav tasting bug tomato. I has also had a huge Lotus ripen. It is a pale yellow tomato and tasted lovely quite delicate for a meaty looking tomato. Excited like you for what is to come 😁😁

My 2 plants are GROWING very well. fruiting, not so much 😄They look like thinner versions of your black moon minus the fruits haha. And i can't really reach to trim it at the top, so they're going wild in the balcony ceiling 🤪But the thing with the strings though. Don't they "need" them? If they do, does it matter if the stems are a bit thinner? 🤔Greenhouse looking good too! LOL at those spoon tomatoes! 🤏And that does indeed sound like a *lot* of nutrients! Hope the way you do it works out, and by the looks of things it seems they do hehe.
@JBNat4 ай бұрын
If I didn't have the strings or any other kind of support then as soon as they started fruiting they would flop over because the cordon varieties get so tall. Often the flopping can snap the stems too. They definitely need some kind of support.

I've not got many tomatoes on my plants yet. I'm hoping they pick up. I've also had the odd tomato with blossom end rot. JB it's difficult to compare with Tony. He's using peat compost as opposed to peat free. I've also had labelling mishaps with cucumbers. My outdoor ended up in the greenhouse & my greenhouse ones outside 😅

Ok, I thought that it was only my tomatoes that were super slow, but i can see its same for others. Mine are exactly same state (both outside & in poly), they just dont grow and tomatoes are hard, small & green. I am not sure they will ever ripen this year... I had however couple that seem to be doing better than others - Lucid Gem, Berner Rose, Thornburn Terracotta & maybe Anna's Russian. For next year planning to significantly scale down on tomato plants and grow mainly these 4 varieties + couple more to trial. I was so exited for the tomato season this year, bought so many seeds from all over the world... a bit disappointing!

How exciting well done JB looking amazing. I use the string method., but next year I think I'm going back too canes. Or maybe a trial of doing both.
@JBNat4 ай бұрын
Any reason you're not getting on with the string method?
@paulinebyrne13214 ай бұрын
@@JBNat I've noticed a friend who uses canes seems to have strong tomatoes plants stems than mine. And, then you suggested why you thought the stems might be weaker because of the help they are getting with the string method. It makes me think that could be the difference between mine and my friends. I am still getting tomatoes so I'm happy but his seems strong and will probably produce more fruit than me.

Wouldn’t leaving those leaves on the ground provide cover and encourage slugs and other pests? If you put boards down for slugs already, do you really want to bring in more with those decaying leaves.

The tomatoes are looking amazing in the poly. I’m so glad it has come up trumps for you and we know it has a sacred meaning to you and so I bet it feels like a bit of Steve has helped you with the growth in there too in some way. Did you grow black cherry?

My tomatoes are quite poor this year but I'm wondering if it's a soil issue? I grow mine in pots with growbag compost and they are so weak looking whereas the 3 i planted in the raised bed are completely different. Ive grown black moon but am a bit clueless as to when i know they are ready! They are almost all purple and are feeling soft?
