Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT) Study
www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/r...
Imperial College London
Commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care,
Ipsos MORI
Antigen and antibody testing surveys
Repeated, non-overlapping, cross-sectional surveys, of random samples of the population
Self-administered throat and nose swabs and questionnaire data
Irrespective of symptoms
To estimate community-wide prevalence
Unbiased by testing availability or behaviour.
28 January - REACT-1 round 8 final report
England during January 2021
High average prevalence
Regional heterogeneity of trends
SARS-CoV-2 infection in the community
REACT-1 survey of prevalence in the community in England
Repeated cross-sectional samples of the population
Between 6th and 22nd January 2021
N = 167,642 results
Positive results = 2,282 were positive
Giving a weighted national prevalence of infection of 1.57%
(95% CI, 1.49%, 1.66%)
No strong evidence for either growth or decay averaged over the period 6th to 22nd January 2021
R number over this period was estimated at 0.98
(0.92, 1.04)
Why not more reduction in cases?
Higher average levels of mobility
More people allowed to physically attend their workplace
A larger number of children eligible to attend school
Higher intrinsic transmissibility of the new variant
Trend during 6th Jan to 22nd Jan
Prevalence remained high throughout, with suggestion of a decline
Regional heterogeneity
Decreasing prevalence in South West
Increasing prevalence in East Midlands
Prevalence during 6th Jan to 22nd Jan
Prevalence highest in London at 2.83%
Prevalence nationally highest in age 18 to 24 year, 2.44%
Those over 65 years, 0.93%
Correlations for higher prevalence
Large household size
Single person households, 1.24%
Households of seven or more people, 3.05%
Living in a deprived neighbourhood
Two most deprived quintiles, prevalence of 1.79%
Two highest quintiles, 1.22%
Black and Asian ethnicity
Black and Asian ethnicity, increased prevalence, 3.07%
White participants, 1.14%
Healthcare and care home workers
Healthcare and care home workers, 1.48%
Other workers, 1.35%
Other key workers
Context
Prevalence of infection in early to mid January 2021…
Highest since May 2020
High and rapidly increasing prevalence in the second wave
Partly, more transmissible strain
First observed in southern England in September 2020
Conclusion
Infection remain much higher than those seen during lockdown in May 2020
Shallower downward trajectory
Unless the prevalence of infection in the community can be lowered substantially
The extreme pressure on health services will continue over the coming weeks …
and possibly months,
until the vaccination programme protects sufficient numbers of at-risk individuals
Essential that we continue to observe public health measures,
Including social distancing, face covers, hand-washing and isolation of cases
If sustained lower prevalence is not achieved rapidly in England, pressure on healthcare services and numbers of COVID-19 deaths will remain unacceptably high.

Why didn't he want to talk about React study 2, because the study showed that less than 5% chance of getting reinfected after they recovered from the virus so natural infection is beter than the vaccine, here read. Methods: All SARS-CoV-2 laboratory-confirmed cases with at least one PCR positive swab that is ≥45 days after a first-positive swab were individually investigated for evidence of reinfection, and classified as showing strong, good, some, or weak/no evidence for reinfection. Viral genome sequencing of the paired first-positive and reinfection viral specimens was conducted to confirm reinfection. Risk and incidence rate of reinfection were estimated. Results: Out of 133,266 laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases, 243 persons (0.18%) had at least one subsequent positive swab ≥45 days after the first-positive swab. Of these, 54 cases (22.2%) had strong or good evidence for reinfection. Median time between first and reinfection swab was 64.5 days (range: 45-129). Twenty-three of the 54 cases (42.6%) were diagnosed at a health facility suggesting presence of symptoms, while 31 (57.4%) were identified incidentally through random testing campaigns/surveys or contact tracing. Only one person was hospitalized at time of reinfection, but was discharged the next day. No deaths were recorded. Viral genome sequencing confirmed four reinfections out of 12 cases with available genetic evidence. Reinfection risk was estimated at 0.02% (95% CI: 0.01-0.02%) and reinfection incidence rate at 0.36 (95% CI: 0.28-0.47) per 10,000 person-weeks. Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 reinfection can occur but is a rare phenomenon suggestive of protective immunity against reinfection that lasts for at least a few months post primary infection.

@@bszlado3703 It's proper information in that it's harder to be misinformed and worse, of course, disinformed when he is speaking. Not a true-all single source to rely upon, that is dangerous territory and not a subscriber personally, that's just stupid. I'm able to interpret the new information, not as an expert, but as anyone that needs to be able to understand what is going on objectively. I believe and have trusted Dr. Campbell's analysis OVERTIME. He is a perfect example as a supporting source for the overall argument to be made. Every source that makes an objective argument, supported by facts and verifiable data, and results in otherwise dissimilar conclusions, is a source I hold onto. if you link your source regarding WHO, you take that step to show your credibility in opposition and would consider it. It's shocking that only now we got to the point that a cycle threshold value should be provided with a positive results, to indicate how likely one is infectious or not... I am pretty sure it is still not being done, and Dr. Campbell's presented study refers still to cases with any PCR positive results, which is why it is completely unreliable and likely very misleading data.... Even the inventor of the PCR test has said many times that this is a research and not diagnostic tool..

That is exactly what I thought, research has shown humidity and temperature play a massive part in restricting the spread of cold and fly viruses which is why the cold and flu season ends every year in the spring. The REACT study starting in May of course it was going to see a fall in cases but to attribute that fall to the lockdown is akin to attributing increased visibility to improved diet while ignoring the rising sun from night time.

The first lockdown took place because in the same weather the cases had been accelerating out of control. If weather cures all, explain the Mediterranean spikes following the migration to the sun by UK and other holidaymakers? That'll be August, running into September when it's still hot out there.
@reallyoldfatgit
@reallyoldfatgit 3 жыл бұрын
@@rogerstarkey5390 good point, really my comment wasn’t to suggest that lockdowns don’t work or aren’t necessary but to recognise that the effectiveness of the first lockdown was assisted by the much better weather. If I recall the prime minister imposed the lockdown just when the winter weather improved with bright sunshine and blue skies. The current lockdown is taking place in the bleak mid-winter and so conditions are better for the virus, helping it infect more people and increasing the time for the lockdown to work.

Irish Govt asks NPHET for advice on vitamin D Meanwhile, the Government has asked the National Public Health Emergency Team to provide advice on the benefit of people taking vitamin D to give additional protection against Covid-19. Speaking in response to Independent TD Marian Harkin in the Dáil today, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar (Medical doctor) said: "We have asked NPHET to advice us and give information we can give to the general public." Dr (Mr) Varadkar said there had been a number of studies on the issue. ***** He added there was evidence it was "beneficial" and taking vitamin D did not do harm, but he cautioned people should take no more than 25mgs. ***** The Tánaiste said most people should be able to get enough vitamin D from a varied diet and sunshine, but he conceded that this was difficult to do at present.

Earlier this month, my son, an architectural engineer, did site surveys of air-handling systems in a number of warehouses and production facilities for a major international corporation. Basically, he was seeing what they had in place and what they needed, so his company could develop the plans for them to be updated. He was shocked, in one warehouse, that the office area had NO outdoor air intake. The rest of the building did, but not the offices. This, of course, means that all workers in the offices are breathing the same air, over and over, day-in and day-out. I'd love to know how many of them have had CoVID in the past year.

Just double check where the blood sample goes - I did mine the other day and I'm sure it went in the second port marked S - a lot of others on here have commented thats how they did it too so the video could be the wrong or right way! Not sure how much difference it makes

React 2 study , which talks about reinfections, and shows that someone who has recovered after natural infection there is less than 5% that he/she would be reinfected, which means it's better than those so called vaccines.

@@rachelm1816 Why didn't he want to talk about React study 2, because the study showed that less than 5% chance of getting reinfected after they recovered from the virus so natural infection is beter than the vaccine, here read.

OOPS! Test video: Blood should have been in the smaller square hole marked 'S', the reagent (?) goes in the lower circular one. (Just so that others don't copy this and make the same mistake -- I don't know but can only guess this may make the test less sensitive...)

Am wondering if it world be worth me getting an antigen test... I had a 'cold' (fever, cough, malaise, etc.) in March and was looking at my pulse with the oximeter... and noticed my O2 was 84 (normally 98). Ended up using my spirometer, my inhaler, and emergency inhaler to get it up above 90. The interesting thing was that when it was 84 I didn't notice any shortness of breath. Knowing what I do now am wondering if I've already had it.

There must be something else to this. Both Zoe and government testing indicates a huge decline in cases over the same timeframe (25% reduction or more per week). Could it be that the new variant is both more transmissible, but also less likely to cause symptoms?
